Out There

I mean, come on!!! This is made by Ryan Quincy!! The man who worked on South Park!! And just when I thought this show was gonna be good, it wasn't good. I have seen the first episode, and I did not laugh once. I know it's part-drama, but it's supposed to be a dramedy, as in drama AND comedy. I had NEVER made a giggle, a chuckle, a chortle, or a single laugh watching Out There. This show was on IFC, a channel almost nobody even cares about. I know this was distributed by Fox, but come on, Ryan Quincy!! I know you can do better. It's not funny, it's not entertaining, it even fails at being a drama, it's just gerbils in high school doing typical things. That's it. The first episode was about Chris getting a cast on his leg, and is called "mommy". Have I ever found that joke funny? No. This show is nothing more than a soulless pile of garbage. The art style kind of reminded me of Regular Show (as much as I hate that show). Why is the creator of Rick and Morty in this show too?? Stay away from this show, and you'll live a better life.

Apparently you either enjoy this show or hate it. I personally enjoyed it, but I like my humor to be on the dryer, bleaker side. Although idk if I would like this show as much without Roiland in it. Roiland's character very much has that Roilandesque feel to it. I'd watch more of it if they made more.

Sometimes a show doesn't take off and that's okay. Sometimes it fails so miserably that people will attempt to use nostalgia as well as their pathetic identifying with characters as an excuse to write raving reviews for what ultimately was and always will be a failure. If you really enjoy being uncomfortable and really love to try your damnedest just to find redeeming qualities in a poorly animated show from 2013 then this may be for you. Or you could give your attention to something more deserving of your time. You can even see what sort of people this show attracts based upon the surrounding reviews. Petulant little man children who desperately cling to their long gone childhoods and seem to possess masochistic viewing tendencies. As evidenced by their choice in show. I will leave this review by reiterating the points behind my rating of 1 star. Poor animation, poor character writing, a narration that sounds as though the reader can't get enough of sucking their own gas through their nose, and a cast of downright repugnant creatures that someone saw fit to set in motion. I hope that people can look back at this show and realize that there are so many better things...Out There.

It's not very funny, nor is it very empathetic, or try hard to be an adult cartoon, or a kids cartoon, or really anything. I feel like that's the beauty of it. There wasn't anything creative aside from the designs, the atmosphere and setting felt pretty identical to the real life, and anything that happens in the show could have realistically happened in real life. Nothing too creative with this show, but the stories it tried to tell were spectacular. Probably one of my favorite shows, and one of my best inspirations. Thank you, Ryan Quincy.

Short Review: It's clever, unique, and relatable Longer Review: I like to keep shows on in the corner of my computer while I'm at work for white noise & some laughs. After going through Futurama, Family Guy, The Office, South Park, Rick and Morty, Parks and Rec, and Adventure Time, in their entirety, for the millionth time, I decided to take a chance and choose something new. It was a terrible idea. I couldn't get any work done because I kept getting sucked in. I found myself immediately pulled in by the familiar vocal talents of Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time, Disenchantment), Fred Armisen (SNL, Unbreakble Kimmy Schmidt, Archer), and so many more. However, what I truly appreciated was the humor. If you go in expecting the jokes used in Ryan Quincy's more popular show, South Park, then you'll find yourself disappointed. I love crass, obvious humor as much as the nest guy (for instance, I've seen every episode of South Park & Family Guy at least twice), but I also enjoy the more quirky, situational humor "Out There" has to offer. While you can skip to pretty much any scene in South Park and discover something crazy or gross to laugh about, Out There offers a deeper kind of humor that takes you on a journey of relatable shenanigans and familiar snafus. To me, it feels more intimate, like an inside joke only you get because you know the characters and what wild decisions landed them where they are. I find it to be a much less cringey tale of puberty than the more recently released sseries, Big Mouth. Damn shame it only lasted a season.
