    A Great Series Finale

This episode, along with part two are the best I've ever seen, and I've seen them all from the very outset. Silent Witness now in it's sixteenth incarnation has been rightly maintained by the BBC due,in the main, not only to it's enduring popularity, but also the quality of the writing and the character continuity as the actors come and go over the years. The storyline in these two episodes is intriguing and plausible, and the screenplay sharp and uncomplicated. The acting consistently superb without being over dramatic and the location believable as war torn Afghanistan, although I'm sure it wasn't. Moreover, it was the direction that won me over, it was well paced and kept my interest piqued for the two hour plus duration. So, overall a great series finale that all involved can be very very proud of. Highly recommended.

It has a very fresh feel.

After the departure or the much loved Harry, the show welcomes Jack and Clarissa, two very strong characters who would develop differently as the show went on, but both equally great. Jack is give a very bold beginning, Clarissa more subtle. Jack is cocky, handsome, brash, and a cage fighter, they went bold.

It's a good storyline, it has series opener feel about it, ie the character development outweighs the story itself, but it's intriguing enough. The biggest mystery about it I always thought was why Tom Piggot Smith was in it for less then ten minutes, a waste of his talents. Sharon Small is excellent in it.

Change is a very appropriate title, this episode seemed to set the tone for the show that would be incredibly successful for years to come.

    Good start. 8/10

    New People

Harry is gone. He has become a university professor. His replacement (I assume) is a thing, wiry guy who likes to cage box. He has stitches around his eyes from being thumped. The case is interesting. The owner of a big candy company is about to sell his business because of some corporate problems, when he dies in a hotel room. His daughter is his heir but hasn't seen him in 19 years. The pathologists look into this and foul play is suspected, event though there is no hard evidence. A beautiful young woman was seen going into the hotel and she becomes a suspect but identifies herself as his granddaughter, the love child of the new heir. But, like most of these episodes, something dramatic happens, a narrative hook at the conclusion of Part 1.
