Michael Fassbender, Jessica Reynolds, Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí in Kneecap (2024)

Review by mail-228-654999

Kneecap

10/10

The film is fantastic, top work all

I'd already seen them live this summer and they were brilliant. Then my local independent were doing a free screening via Cinematik/Escapes.

Their film was absolutely fantastic, great story, excellent soundtrack (their songs obviously but plenty of others too - the scene with the Prodigy is a particular highlight). It starts off very very funny but as the story progresses it really ramps up the drama and tension but also has a lot of heart too.

The three band members are all excellent, as are the rest of the cast including (but not only) Fionnuala Flaherty, Simone Kirby and Michael Fassbender.

Given that a key point of the plot is the use of Irish language, that it should go on to be the Irish pick for the Oscars and the first Irish language film shown at Sundance is great news.

I really hope it achieves the success it deserves.
