Well meant, but poorly done

This purports to be an anti-suicide movie with a bit of religion tossed in, but limited enough to keep the film from coming across as Christian. Like the person who walked away after 25 minutes and gave two stars, I was tempted. To that point the writing is stiff, the acting amateurish, the editing without sense and one can only wonder where the director was hiding out. After that, it got marginally better, but not much. There's no organic flow to the movie, story, characters or acting, but a series of staged scenes with stiff lines that often amount to speeches. And the final school scene makes no sense at all. As an anti-suicide movie, it doesn't make a strong impression. Overall, it seemed like a long version film school project, although it could as well been a poorly funded and thought through advocacy effort.

Terrible

The worst acting I have seen in a very long time. I didnt even finish watching it. I have no idea how it got so many good ratings on here.

Don't waste your time

Poor acting & story. I've seen more life from "actors" in a high school drama class. Save yourself from the agony of this movie and pass it over.

Indie Coming of Age Story

My Senior Year is an endearing indie coming of age film that I really enjoyed. I don't know what it is about stories about the high school experience that I connect with so much -- perhaps it's the nostalgia or just because it was such a formative time for so many of us -- but I really like this these types of films. My Senior Year grapples with a lot of the significant issues we all face in high school, but through the unique perspective of a truck driver's son starting school for the first time. My Senior Year spans a range of emotions from sweet to sad to funny at various points in the film, encompassing much of what we may have experienced, but taking it a step further in some places too that I'll leave you to see. Even when dealing with much more serious issues, My Senior Year handles them well. I'd say it's well worth your time, particularly if you're looking for something to watch while stuck sheltering in place like me.

Great high school story

In the middle of a pandemic, something inspirational is really welcome. And yet very true to high school emotions and realities. This film was funny, sometimes sad, always sweet. I found myself really invested in and cheering for the lead character. How many movies out there can do that anymore? A really fine indie charmer!

A relatable, fun and funny film

This movie was a pleasant surprise. This film takes on a familiar subject and does a great job. The movie handles this part of our life pretty well. Everyone remembers their high school time. Good acting by Perry Chicos as the lead as he helps us navigate the ups and downs of high school. There are some nice laughs in the movie as well. Joe Carlini takes a good script and gets the most out of his actors. I recommend it for a nice night in (and aren't all nights in these days?). A well done film.

A heartfelt movie we can all relate to.

We all can relate to this very heartfelt indie movie. Growing up is never easy, and its a right of passage we must all go through. When Perry wants to go back and experience his senior year it's full of all those right of passage moments we all hope to experience. Love, loss, stupidity, and connection. Very well acted and directed.

A must see high school film.

I've always been a huge fan of high school movies and this one is a new favorite. Tons of funny comedy scenes. Great soundtrack. Love the direction the movie took. I was also very impressed with the ensemble. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun and touching movie!

What a gem of a film! It's just terrific in all areas! I really enjoyed the story. It held my interest throughout. The actors were all good and I enjoyed them a lot. They were relatable and fun to watch. I found myself pulling for the lead actor, the lead character. This film is warm, charming, funny etc. It hit all the key components I like in a film! Relatable high school drama with heart

While it captures familiar high school drama tropes, this film elevates itself with some depth of emotion and a thoughtful backstory. Through this lens, the film is a satisfying exploration of the high school experience, making you connect with the lead character and empathize. While it makes some attempts to pull on your heart strings, it ultimately remains grounded in a story that is relatable and compelling.

Not your average high school movie!

I love high school movies, so I knew this would be right up my alley. This film has a great mix of laughs and emotions. Lotsof fun, but also deals with some very serious subject matter very delicately. Thoroughly enjoyed!

So much fun!!

Oh what a laugh this film was. It took me right back to my younger years and remembers the ups and the downs, the victories and the struggles of launching into a grown up world with all sorts of responsibilities. The story is fantastically written and executed and the acting was spot on. With never a dull moment, I also recognized an underlying message of hope and perseverance. This honestly was a tonne of fun to watch!

Romantic coming of Age film

High school drama!.....Don't we all want to do it again?.....Why is it we always fall for someone who is already taken.....It is a truly relatable story that pulls you to be with the main character. Also liked the role of the dad....Definitely worth a watch

Raw emotions

My Senior Year tackles a familiar subject about a teenager coming of age dealing with the pressure of growing up in a dysfunctional family that self-destructs unexpectedly. My Senior Year, an independent film, directed by Joe Carlini, does not pull away from showing the emotional and heartbreaking relationship between a father and son. Brian, played by Perry Chicos, gives a sympathetic performance in a fully charged moving portrayal of a lost soul.

Ordinary People at Ridgemont HIgh

Great premise for a movie and a lot of good messaging. The opening scenes set the stage for this interesting, timely and emotionally charged movie. With much of the high school silliness of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" this story also shows the seriousness of problems that confront teenagers much like "Ordinary People". The whole film works without getting too preachy.

This movie is well done! It tells a touching intimate story well crafted by young director Joe Carlini. I remember seeing this film some years back and I'm excited that it now has a wide official release.

Relatable and Entertaining

It's a setting that has been done many times before, but one of the reasons this film was so enjoyable was the relatability of the characters. We've all go through similar situations, in our lives and they were captured wonderfully in this film. The high points made me super nostalgic, and the low points brought some real emotion. Be right back, I've got to go dig up my high school yearbook.
