2 hours of waiting for something to happen

I admit, I am not one of those folks who call themselves Harry Potter Fans. However thought I would give this one a try. thought it would be a perfect way for me and my family to spend a cold afternoon...

I felt this was was 2 hours of waiting for something to happen. I get there are usually slow starts with most trilogies as the characters and story line are provided to the audience. However for me felt the movie was extremely slow and sorry, seeing new magical beasts is not very exciting. They did that with avatar a decade ago. My boys ages 8 and 10 had trouble as well engaging in the movie. Both gave it a thumbs down when we were leaving.

Horrible

I can only summarize the movie as horrible. This movie is confusing, poorly acted, awfully directed and a five year old can write a better script.

I love Harry Potter, read all the books (a few times) and seen all the movies. This movie is something completely different and though it tries to hint that it is in Harry Potter world I can't seem to find one redeeming quality in this film that has any connection what so ever to Harry Potter. The movie was flat out boring and unwatchable, some cringe moments added in with sup par effects made me face palm myself saying out loud "What is going on here?"

To make it short, this movie is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long while, it's a complete mess with a very weak plot. I am extremely disappointed that this is what they could do with a 180 Million Dollar budget and a HUGE world full of potential.

I want 2 hours of my life back.

The movie is very long yet it won't lay foundation or background of the characters. It's unrealistic. Yes I will call a fantasy movie unrealistic.

A good fantasy movie is one that actually convince you that it could happen. Star war could be real, Harry potter could be real in other dimension. Inception is possible in future. But this movie is not.

Throwing cockroach that able fly into tea pot. Love between character that barley interact. A baker that doesn't even have anything important to the story Wizard that ride a boat back to England.

With 133 minutes you should make a movie that richer than this. Currently this movie rating at8.2

I will lists the movie that got 8.2 in IMDb And after you watch this movie please feel free to rate it where it belong; Good Will Hunting, Yojimbo, Up, My Neighbor Totoro,Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The great escape, A Beautiful Mind.

Boring Movie

As a fan of Harry Porter series, I feel this movie is very boring and over-rated. The story is very linear and predictable. The beast is worst than the main series. The main male characters still remind his role in "The theory of everything".

Disappointed

This review is totally based on expectation level after watching Harry potter series. I loved HP series and if I am giving HP 9/10, then I would give this movie 4/10. Off course the graphics were great but the story line sucked. Maybe I was expecting too much out of this movie. But I still think this could have been better. May be if they would have concentrated on making this movie like harry potter. Surely they previewed it like one. Movie has some cheap laughs and some new places but least they could have done is to include some more magic. :)

Its not a great movie but if you are a HP fan then you can watch it for once.

Bad by the numbers

There are people who are so enamored with JKR and the genre that they will love this movie no matter what. But, the movie was bad. It was more of a JKR indulgence. I went with my daughter, and spending the time with her was the only good part. It is true that the movie does not try to develop characters, it just presumes that you're already engaged conceptually. You simply get no backstories and things are just happening; I never understood why I should like or hate a character, and I could not get attached in any way, because I didn't know why things were happening and how it affected the story-line... For people already in love, they are not objective, but the movie was really bad from a "good story" perspective of critical review. It was simply an excuse for a movie. I love movies, and this was simply a bad movie. It was a bad movie for the genre or for any genre.

Everything I hate in a movie

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is everything I hate in a movie – and then some. (I would have walked out if I wasn't with Marie.) The movie has 15 minutes of plot and two hours of CGI, most of which does absolutely nothing to do with the story or the plot. ("Mommy! MOMMY! I got a new CGI program! Look at all the fantastic beasts I've created! Can we hang them on the refrigerator?!")

That the movie wastes an excellent cast is also unforgivable. Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston have little with which to work, but the screen comes alive when Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler (a Muggle, uh "No-maj") all too infrequently appear together. And, there's a tiny little cameo in the last scene of the movie…

The good news is that the movie is 2:15 long, so I had lots of time to look through my pockets in hopes of finding something sharp enough with which to gouge out my eyes. And, to ponder how the actors must have felt spending endless hours on a green screen stage, emoting to a tennis ball. I felt especially sorry for Eddie Redmayne in the scene where he's required to perform a rumpant mating dance. (Don't ask…)

If you like the Harry Potter movies, you'll probably like this one. Otherwise, avoid like the plague.

Not believable

Ultimately this movie failed in making me believe all the magic and special effects were real. I was constantly aware I was watching special effects, especially with the animals.

Overrated garbage

Unfortunately this is no harry potter, Fantastic beast has a weak and boring story, the main plot is unclear and messy, with characters that has no charisma. If you compare this to harry potter its this is very much trash, the whole movie is just a bunch of cgi monsters doing nothing wondering around, perhaps its enjoyable playing pokemon go. This is another good example why the rating is such an unreliable bs.

the postmodernism shows

I want to say the positive first which is that most of the cast did a fairly good job. I think they did as they were directed to do and they pulled it off. However the writing was pretty dreadful. And I find the directing and editing to be in question as well. This movie really, as with so many things out of the modern entertainment world, not much better than a slog through someone's misanthropy and postmodernist, unhealthy, unhappy crap. I hope for the best for those who are so bad off, but I don't care to wallow in it with them. This left a lot to be desired.

Boring cgi fest with no charm

It's very loud and very effect laden, but there's no story and no charming setting or characters. It's straight up $curcheng-ville.

Absolute bore-fest. Visually stunning, absolutely zero plot.

I have a high tolerance for wandering stories, but I took a nap, then went for a walk to the concession stand...came back, and this nonsense was still aimlessly wandering nowhere across the screen. Plotless, boring, forgettable, unengaging, uncompelling, nearly as bad as the recent disaster that is Robert Downey Jr's. Sherlock Holmes, with similarly wasted beautiful visuals. Watch this only if you want some background noise while your are doing something more useful.

What is this tosh?

Just who is this movie made for? It can't be for kids because its boring, it can't be for adults because again its boring, so i can only assume its for the hollywood studios to cash in on JK woke Rawlings Harry Potter fame. A hideous mess of a movie which never holds your attention and doesn't give you anything interesting to do. Not to mention Stephen Hawkins clambering all over the screen ... What was that poor man thinking playing Hawkins?! Talk about selling your soul to the devil.

I tried, and tried, and tried ...

I really really wanted to like/love this movie, and watched it 4 times. The first time, I was so bored at the halfway point I gave up, the second time I made it to just past the halfway point and gave up, the third time I was drunk so I think I feel asleep and vaguely remembered the ending, the fourth time I was fully present and paying attention, and was utterly determined to make it all the way through just to see if the film finally found its sea-legs and became 'good'. Well, I'm here to tell you, the emperor HAS no clothes, and to be perfectly honest, it must be very very young people who are liking and rating this movie, that have barely ever seen movies, and just blunder about liking everything no matter how dull it is. This movie is so incredibly dull. All due respect to those who laboured over the special effects/costumes etc, and even the actors, who do the best they can with such a dull storyline, but in the end, nothing can save this film from being reminiscent of watching paint dry or watching grass grow. Sorry guys, but you will only like this film if you have a very high tolerance for tedium.
