Not great as a narrative but has a lot of good work going on

There is a lot good to be said for this film and it is a shame that filling out the narrative and providing a bit of better context is not one of them. The film is set in a crumbling apartment block, where a man cares for a computer which is part machine and part flesh – however an interaction with two men with a gun threatens to change a lot. Within this very loose frame the film does not give us too much in the way of specifics about the where's or why's of what is going on, but it does still provide some good moments and ideas. Indeed this is a double-edged sword because while a lot of the design and background to the story is lacking, there is enough here to interest and, ironically, make you feel the lack of greater story more than you may otherwise have.

Feeling like a piece of a Cronenberg film, the short has plenty of style in delivery. There are moments of CGI animation involving a fly, there are the physical effects of the main computer, and some action and event-driven effects as well. These plus the ideas and potential plots that they represent are all interesting and well delivered, but I did find it frustrating not to have more in the way of narrative. The significance of certain points does not come out, and the overall significance doesn't either; although it runs to almost 15 minutes, it could at once have been shorter (for what it did) but also it could easily have been longer and had more things fleshed out.

Worth a look for what it does well for sure, however the lack of a more robust narrative is a problem for it.
