Submerged (2016) is a survival thriller movie directed by Steven C. Miller and it was a first time watch for me and the movie was pretty mediocre.
Positives for Submerged (2016): The premise of the movie has some potential and it is done well for the most part. The performances from the cast particularly from Jonathan Bennett, Talulah Riley and Tim Daly are good enough. The underwater submerged sequence is pretty tense and suspenseful to watch. And finally, the action sequences are decently well shot for the most part.
Negatives for Submerged (2016): This movie feels like it was shot during a weekend trip. For some reason, they used CGI for the bullets used with the guns and it looks hilariously bad. The villains of this movie are hilariously generic and one-dimensional and they were away to beat. And finally, the movie was way too long as the pacing was horrible and it was dragging me like a punk.
Overall, Submerged (2016) is a typical and generic by the numbers survival thriller movie that has its moments, but it is a movie that I probably won't be rewatching anytime soon.

Wow. Take a scenario where a corporate big wig with money in offshore accounts, hired bodyguards, expensive suits and shoes that just laid off half a town from their employment, ruining countless lives. A spoiled daughter born with a silver spoon in her mouth, riding in limousines etc.
Then, have angry townspeople for the position they found themselves in due to their unemployment: loss of income, loss of health and life insurance, unable to pay their home mortgages, hungry babies. etc.
Now, , , we are supposed to feel sorry for the corporate giant and his putrid crotch daughter and root for them to kill off the upset towns people.
What's wrong with this picture?
It could have been a good movie if they just rethought the ending a bit.

I've been visiting IMDb.com for over 8 years and this is my first online review, ever. I'm writing this review because I've seen a lot of bad movies, and this is not one of them.
Maybe it's because of my age (I'm in my 40s), but I disagree with the negative reviews posted. Funny thing is, I almost skipped over this one because of the bad reviews -- I'm glad I didn't because this movie draws you in and, after the first 20 minutes, I was hooked... and you will be too.
In this day and age where it seems all Hollywood can do is either create movies from comic book heroes OR remake classics, it's hard to find good movies to watch. Is Submerged the best movie ever made? No. But, it's definitely way, way better than average.
I thought the director used the flashbacks very well in building the characters and telling the story. The acting was definitely above average and there is more than enough tension. Mario Van Peebles did a great job, too. Where the heck has Mario been?? Jonathan Bennett and Tim Daly also were very good -- the entire cast did well. Finally, the cinematography, the editing and the music are all top notch. I can't understand why all the bad reviews. Submerged is a good thriller and worth your while to watch.
I'm not going to give any of the story away but if you are over 30 years old and you're looking for a good thriller to pass the time, don't pass this one up. It will keep you submerged... until the end.
Kudos to the director, the producers, the cast... and everyone involved.

Submerged is a isolating thriller that sets the stage with a limousine submerged in a body of water. We don't know how they got there but the cabin is filling with water. The movie intersects the action with flashbacks of how it all led there. Matt is tasked with looking after this important guys daughter named jessie. But some bad people are after her for kidnapping and one thing leads to another and they end up in water along with her friends. Its a good decent thriller. It has some intense parts with better parts as the movie gets to its climax. Acting was alright and good enough and overall I liked it.
I watched in morbid fascination as Jonathan Bennett effectively killed his acting career. Although likeable enough in rom com or as a host, he is just plain weird in this. His acting is off, all the time. Clearly, JB was out of his element with this one.
As of the story, it is full of holes and in dire need of some logic. Someone in tge writing department should have regroup their thoughts cause this story is all over the place.
The characters are utterly forgettable. How did they get Tim Daly on board for that colossal fail is beyond me! Watch something else, unless you love bad movies.
