This is the whole of my review, but in order to post it, I must fill out the requisite number of characters.
Hmmm still over four hundred characters to go. Obviously the designers of this method of review collection have never adopted the concept of short and sweet. They prefer a verbose display unrated characters to make the review seem more pertinent by great collects of verbose.
Still one hundred twenty six character required to submit my review. I hope to satisfy the requirements without resorting to adding a cardinal countdown.
My low expectations were not only met with the execution 'My Gal Sunday' but it managed to be worse than expected. Even Mathison can't save this. 2014 did see some good Hallmark films like 'A Ring By Spring', but also some real stinkers. Of which 'My Gal Sunday' is one of them and one of the worst of them. There are also some good Hallmark Movies and Mysteries films, though more the films with more serious themes and family dilemmas than the crime mystery ones, but 'My Gal Sunday' again is among the worst.
The only good thing about it is the scenery, which is very nice.
Sadly pretty much wasted by some really chaotic and self-indulgent camera work and drab lighting. Matthison looks ill at ease and his performance is lifeless, while Rachel Blanchard tries too hard and started to irritate later on. The chemistry between them is completely bland and found their initial scenes forced. The rest of the performances are a mix of ham overdose and mailing it in in silly stereotypical roles. The direction is unfocused and lacks energy.
Really disliked all the characters, ones with no personality, very vague at best motivations and who behave so outrageously. Especially the responsible. Furthermore, the script is both mundane and contrived, with everything feeling flat and unnatural. The cheese is also too much. The premise is very far fetched and beyond stupid to begin with and the story is wildly implausible and silly with no energy or tension.
As well as very dully paced, what would have solved that problem actually would have been having less of the flashbacks. They were not really needed actually, confused the structure and a few were irrelevant. The ending is beyond insulting and makes one feel like their IQ has been lowered, that is a terrible thing to feel watching something.
In summary, really bad. 2/10.
