Here's the thing, everyone who see's this series already has the movie in mind, and let's face it, you take away the brutality and swearing and you just have a watered down series. Which is exactly their mistake, the actors weren't too bad, the plot is still on track but the actual dialog and the posturing is awful, just terrible. It needs a serious rewrite from some writers that know how to write gritty and the choreography needs to be a lot more natural. Another major problem is that they seem to be rewriting the actual story and how it comes together, I mean some rewrites were expected but not the ones they made, they just make everything seem fake. Right now its a 6/10 because it just doesn't work, not really, tweak and it and then we'll see.
High hopes as I have for Netflix Original Series, this is most certainly one to skip if the pilot is any indication. The show, much like the movie, follows two unhinged brothers as its central characters, running from the law presumably on their way to the "Titty-Twister", the Vampiric roadhouse featured in the film. The sympathetic brother of course bears a distinct resemblance to George Clooney, while no effort was made, quite understandably, to make the more psychotic of the pair look anything like Tarentino.
The pilot made an effort to start strong; with shoot-outs, sworn vengeance,creepy-erotic snake related rituals, demonic visions and more, all in an effort to try and let you know that, while a remake of a relatively silly movie, this show has it's own story that you're going to want to see unfold.
Problem is, it falls flat as a pancake. The acting, while not bad, struggles around a clunky and often nonsensical script, the reactions characters have to the situations in which they're placed and the choices that they make often so distant from reason as to make you hope the story so far was just a dream sequence, and things will soon get less ridiculous. The absolute low-point however is the utterly unimpressive cinematography/effects which try and fail to make a pair of demonic visions seem frightening, the absolutely terrible costumes accompanying, like throw-aways off the set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, putting the nail in the coffin of this being a 'horror' show. Some monster costumes, some blurry lens-filters and a red-wash effect do not a scary hallucination make. This show is starting on a major stumble. It needs to rapidly get its act together, or I can't imagine it will last.
Update: Well, several episodes in and rather than improve, this show is in a downward spiral. The characters, rather than gaining depth as the show progresses, are actually bleeding depth off like they're suffering hemophilia. The worst example is the Father/Preacher, played by the exceptional Robert Patrick, who is utterly wasted. While his dialogue was hackneyed from the start, it's degenerated into a series of pastor-related one-liners a thirteen year old might write into a Dusk Till Dawn fanfiction, "Things just got Biblically worse..!" one of the main offenders among many. The Episode meant to emulate the comical, ultra-gory brawl-scene from the original film has aired, and was an exceedingly weak knock-off. The only saving grace, the single moment of relief from the tear-jerkingly dull sequence, was Sex Machine's comment, upon running out of ammo, "Damn, I blew my load..!" I actually kinda half-chuckled there.

Have you seen it? No? There is likely a very good reason for that...it stinks.
Like nearly ALL the endless remakes and reboots that have been plaguing movie goers for the past decade or so....all this is, is a heartless version of the original.
It has no heart.
It has no soul.
It is a retelling of a film that we all love and cherish...and it adds nothing to the story. It improves nothing but the special effects--which held up very well over time--and in some cases belittles the fans of the original...particularly in the fact that they remade the movie at all, without adding anything clever to it.
Like so many other remakes it is a hallow shell of the original.

This is the most awfully directed and acted serial this year. It had a good promise - A movie which is well loved by a whole lot of us and a Producer who also takes an interest in its direction in Robert Rodriguez.
But after watching the first five episodes I must say this is the absolute pits among TV dramas this year. The acting is non-existent,the CGI is awful, the story never gets any where and the direction makes you wonder whether anyone is doing any job at all. How can you get it so wrong? For all those who wondered whether it is too late to join in, please do not worry as in five episodes, practically nothing happens! The characters are so badly written you do not care for any of them. The action sequences have a serious flaw - any one with half a brain knows the outcome of the fights even before the prolonged balletic shoot outs! Absolutely no suspense or imagination. The back stories are told repeatedly for whatever reason which the viewers just don't care. This is sad as it had a great promise for those looking for an alternative to the Twilight Vampire series. This is an absolute let down and a torture on the viewers. One can only hope it gets its deserved end soon.

I am sick and tired of studios taking the classics and pooping out sequels & prequels and reboots that are absolute garbage! I have sat through 3 episodes so far and I cannot take it any more, this thing crawls along at a snails pace and does not have a single character that you can empathize with. I mean seriously right about now I'm hoping that what ever freakin' creature is in this thing swoops down and kills every single lame-ass character! Notably missing from this snore fest is the killer soundtrack which really sets the vibe and I can pretty much guarantee you that there will be no Titty Twister or any other titties for that matter...
How this got a 7.6 rating just astounds me, peeps must think that they are rating the actual movie... speaking of which I went to watch episode 4 tonight and noticed that the actual movie is on Netflix as well so I re-watched the movie and I'll pass on the rest of the series.
I hope next time Netflix has an "ORIGINAL" series it actually is original.

Awful show. The movie was a fantastic cult hit but this was the most idiotic thing I have ever seen. The acting is god awful, lines are campy and incredibly out of place, and worst of all, the story line keeps doing deviations from the movie but then purposefully including random scenes and story elements from the flick which make zero sense.
They would have been far better either creating a new story line or just sticking to the tried and true script instead of this bastardization we were presented with.
Quite literally the only positives would be the camera work, costumes, make up and effects which isn't a necessarily a compliment considering how far cinema effects and technology have come.
"If I didn't know any better I would say these things are vampires...Yep definitely Vampires. Go for the heart!"
I mean seriously...if that's the kind of terrible script you like then by all means you should love this show as each episode is full of stuff like this.

The original movie from 1996 was unique, memorable with a great script written by Quentin Tarantino and it had a decent direction from Robert Rodriguez. The sequels were absolutely unwatchable and had nothing much to do with the original project.
Many would assume the creators atleast tried to correct those 2 movies out with a TV show but instead they ignored them completely and decided to remake the first one. I really don't understand why anybody would think its a logical move but the main problem is that they recreated most of the scenes exactly the same just 100 times worse. The first season is basically just a boring, badly acted and directed recreation of the beloved film. The rest of the series isn't any better either. Even when the plot finally past the well known milestones it lacks any originality, it just totally full of mainstream ideas which are executed in the most cheap way possible. Its as bad for a heist show, as its bad for a supernatural drama. The acting is mediocre at the best but most of the times its just plain weak and bad. The plot is full of holes, not speaking of the lore. The dialogue tries too hard to be Tarantino like and it fails miserably. The special effects are cheap and not so good looking.
The only reason why this project managed to run for 3 seasons (atleast they have only 10 episodes each) is probably because Robert Rodriguez was the showrunner on the show which airs on his own television channel.

The acting is sub par. The dialogue is like something out of a school play, stilted and tacky Don Johnson must really be in great need of money for saying yes to this crap. The movie it's based on wasn't really that good either, which is probably why George clooney and Tarantino has nothing to do with the sequels. And the first one more or less ended up as a cult movie But this, this is just waste of money. They actors can't act(Aside from Don Johnson and Robert Patrick) They should all go back to acting school. Who on earth green lighted this show for two Seasons,it stinks. I don't mind the slightly gory effects. But the acting make me cringe.where did they find these guys? At a street corner with a sign saying: "Will pretend I can act, for food" by episode 4 there are still hardly any sign of vampires. And the story is jumbled and mostly told on weird incoherent flash backs

Everything which was good, epic and horror in the classic, was taken off and replaced with horrible make ups! poor CGI, poor story, and bad script! so lame! why ???? why would ruin such a classic like this??? it should be illegal! the good reviews are a lie, dont watch it.

What an utter disappointment this was. I'm a fan of the original film. But this almost adds nothing to the original. The actors are mediocre at best, but especially the writer fails terribly. The choice to hint already early in the film to vampires totally missed the point why the film was so successful artistically in the first place. I stopped watching at series one when they entered The Titty Twister. It went downhill so fast, not only the writing but the acting as well, like the actors totally lost inspiration as well. Till that moment I would have given the film a 6- but after, I give it a 1- . Do not bother watching this.

Very disappointed in this.
The two Gecko brothers reminded me of Ronnie and Reggie Kray with hints of Reservoir Dogs, True Blood and some contrived drug B movie. This is series is not even in the same style as the film, no class just crass.
It's probably OK to have on in the background of a party when everyone is drinking and taking little notice. The acting is over-played, there are flash -backs (which I dislike) and the story is to daft to be realistic enough to want to follow.
Sorry, but this series in my opinion is very over-rated.

Season 1 is OK intriguing as you want to learn what is happening. They should have stopped after season1.
Nothing happens in Season 2 and 3, it just repeats itself between battle between evil and less evil. Extremely boring and the characters are not likeable and plots are not realistic at all even is a world of fantasy,
I don't recommend watching after season 1.
