Although I truly enjoyed seeing the opening shots of New York City in the nineteen fifties; I couldn't understand why it was necessary to remake this classic film.

When I read that Tony Kushner was the writer, I had very high hopes that he would adapt the source material to modern times like the original creative team did back in 1957.

Unfortunately, it was just a rehash of the original movie with a couple of changes that had no effect whatsoever on the story. There was nothing new or interesting about it.

Not worthy of William Shakespeare or Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins and Peter Gennaro!

I respect Spielberg, actually I love his films. But, why? It's really bad. Awful if I wanna put it correctly. It's like you copy Mona Lisa, and it will be definitely worse, because after all you are not Davinci, and your work gets nominated for the best painting competition in the world. Ridiculous!

No chemistry between protagonists, emotionless screenplay and directing, ...., nothing engaging about this movie 10 stars for the original Robert Wise version and 2 stars for the mew one, just because of some beautiful dance moves and music which is apparently borrowed from the original version.

I really wanted to love this film but couldn't get past the retelling of the story. Had he stuck to the original script and storyline this might have worked. Another thing that made it almost impossible for me to watch was all the flashing lights and halo effects from the lights hitting the camera lense during the filming. Horrific if you a photosensitive. The direction was awful in many spots. Too far away where there should have been close ups. Too many angles and it made it impossible to connect with the actors and dancers. Watch the original. It's flawless and brilliant.

This movie is very mid. Everyone is singing every 5 minutes. Maria's family so so so so boring to listen to. Their lives are so borining. Even I found Romeo and Juliet better than this. This movie is so cringy. Born to read Romeo and Juliet, forced to watch this trash movie.

I hate this movie so much its a waste of time and nobody should watch it, it cut 10 years off my life and I cant get it back this movie needs to be erased from existence whoever made it is so dumb.

They sing all of a sudden and its not even funny. The singing is not even good. This is literally the incarnation of Disney collab with gang violence.

Do not watch this movie. Its 2 hrs and 30 minutes and a waste of time.

When I first heard West side story was being remade, I couldn't believe it, and after watching it, my fears were confirmed, so much wrong, the story out of place, and the acting and most bizzare, the lens flares through out the film, only up side was the performance of anitas actress worthy effort, also the fact that Natalie Wood never won, but the terrible Rachel zegier did is an embarassment ,the original is a masterpiece, Spielberg should be ashamed, should never have been considered to be remade, frankly anyone that even dares to compare or praise this garbage really is trolling or completely clueless.
