So at the store last week and along with getting Avengers Endgame on Blu Ray I noticed a pretty new action/thriller with Sylvester Stallone and Matthew Modine called Backtrace. But you know something is wrong when the film is less than a year old and the Blu Ray is already in the bargain bin. The film is just a very boring mess that run 82 minutes (without credits) and still could have been at least 20 minutes shorter.

The plot has a thief (Matthew Modine) and a few other criminals getting shot down by their partners. Modine survives but looses his memory. Seven years later 3 people break him out of a high security facility and put experimental drugs in him. Most of the film is watching Modine have painful flashbacks and looking for bags of money. We get some scenes of Stallone in random cop exposition scenes. But most of the film is just boring scenes of them looking for bags of money. Very little happens in the film. There is two shootout scenes but nothing that exciting. The whole film lacks in every department especially in character development. This is Stallones worst work.

After watching this, all that I can advise you to do, is to watch one of the Good Police Programmes, that you get on your T.V. Giving a 2 star rating, is being fairly generous. The Acting, if you can call it that, especially by Stallone, was that "Wooden", you may as well used a Ventriloguist's Dummy. This type of acting, you may expect from, a very bad drama student, but for Major Stars, not acceptable in any way. If you had to choose, between a walk in the rain, or this movie, "Take the walk in the rain".

20 minutes in and I am OUT...........stop before you start this movie.

The 20 minutes I watched had no story it just went on and on and on.

Sly was in it for a minute and gone like I should have been at 3 minutes In.

Nothing redeemable about it. The review has to be a minimum length and I can't even be bothered to look back on it. I stopped watching near the end.

Terrible in every way. Waste of time. Timing, acting, scenery it's all low budget and bad plot.

I watched it because there was nothing else to do, comes free on amazon prime. And I guess you get what you pay for, wasted time. The story is.. well I won't spoil it, it does soil it itself. There is no plot, it's plain nonsense, lots of shooting, Stallone comes in as Jerry Miculek, he doesn't solve anything, but at least he take care of a squad of baddies despite them having body armor and automatic weapons. He doesn't have any of that but a fast finger, so yeah we get some realistic firefight. Bad bad bad, there's nothing in this movie that makes it worth watching.

Well to be honest, first I thought it must be a good movie as Sylvester Stallone is acting in this film. But as the movie goes by, I found out that he has a side role in this movie.

The script and story-line is not that bad but not as a complete movie script, it could be a side story in a good movie. However, the story drag so long to maybe show the importance of family or something like that.

If you really love watching movies and always looking forward to learn something new or at least enjoy the story, I would not recommend this movie as it might bore you to death.

Or didnt get a role in this mess of a thriller???. the lucky one has probably saved his or hers careere for a few more years,and do not have to stand trial for parttaking in this robbery of 90 minutes of my lifetime. so im gonna backtrace them and the director cause this is over and out for him and the rest.

its shows from 00 59 in this flick that its dumb and colorless,a wild shootout, camera images so close up on the actors ,so you start counting the pimples on the forehead, and nostril-hairs on syst,terrible. lame story,unexciting filmography,bad light and sound production, terrible score,and a castaway cast that should have been left with a coconut each on a pacific sandbank,screaming to the landcrabs,who has allready eaten the leftovers from another castaway film.....

there are simply not anything fine to say about this motheaten story,than that it should never have been made, and if you have free tickets ,throw them away.

This not a Stallone movie... it's more like a movie with a Stallone cameo. He appears only a few brief times and he doesn't add much to the movie.

Matthew Modine plays the main character but is role is preposterous... and he doesn't seems to be trying all that hard.

The movie is slow paced and even gunfights look boring (I only watched one, at the beginning of the movie; don't know if there are more).

I stopped watching at 39 minutes... it felt like I was wasting my time.

I never gave such a low score to a movie and maybe I would have given it a little more if the main actors were "amateurs", but I was too disappointed to let this slide.

Honestly I love Sylvester Stallone. My childhood hero. Rambo, Rocky. My childhood would never have been the same.

But what the *ell is this?

Stallone is only in less than half the film. Honestly I don't know why someone of his caliber would shame himself with such a movie. But I guess for money even legends will sell their souls.

I loved Mathew Modine in full metal jacket so I know he's also capable of so much more than this. Really bad acting on his part in this film. I guess he also wanted to make some cash and didn't care how bad this movie will be.

Stallone had just received his first Oscar nomination a couple of years before this movie released, iam just praying that this is his attempt at parody. The acting, gun shoot-outs are so lame it is kinda funny.

Believe the reviews this looks like a failed T. V pilot and they did re-shoots with Stallone to pass it off as a movie.

This film reminded me of escape plan Hades I did enjoy this alot more the acting so serious and straight it is hilarious and look for Stallone's super serious cool guy photo on the police back board it is a Cobra call back, that and many other reasons is why iam leaning towards parody,. This is my first review ever so hope it is helpful and my grammar is fine.

This is an extremely substandard movie and very boring to watch. Even the shootout scenes were so fake that I hardly paid attention to who was getting shot. Most of the actors simply phoned this in and seemed desperate for the movie to end. So was I.

Decent action at times. Possibly decent plot. Poorly written, poorly directed. Just plain dumb the way it was written and how it evolved and ended. Got sucked in because I like Stallone.

This film caught my eye and I would have rather taken a lawn dart to the eye instead. The acting was lower than sub par I don't even have a category to fit it into, which surprised me a little with modine on the credits, but I give more of the blame to the writing. I think a 3rd grade film club student could have written a story with a more coherent plot. Miller has proven once again he has no grasp on filming action scenes, I don't know why he keeps attempting it. The film never leaves you wanting more, it actually had me wanting the end credits to roll. The "twist" was apparent within the first 10 minutes of the movie, and despite the higher profile cast list, it fell flatter than a Russian gymnast's bust. The dialogue was laughable more often than not, but not in that "so bad it's good" way. Save yourself some time and avoid this movie completely, it's not even worth a hate watch.

Poor old actors of yesteryear with their badly fitting wigs and plastic surgery failures - Poor old Sylvester's mouth pout looks like my bottom after a particularly bad mexican nachos nights; its really that bad - he looks really ill , frail and old and his role is a mere bit part if you can call it that. Stallone actually looks like my granny now he has had so much plastic surgery, botox and steroids its really quite sad as I really liked most of his films.

Nice to see Mathew Modine back, still a good actor and he has aged well but sadly not even he can save this unoriginal load of old codswallop.

Same old story you have seen it all before , bank robber busted from jail to find stolen money, grotesque dialogue and directing and it sounds like they used the music from the old movie "THE SEARCHERS" at the end - check it out and tell me if I am right? Totally inappropriate and bad choreograhpy, action scenes and plain boring.

Its gets funny towards the end - apparently they have invented pistols that fire 20-40 rounds of ammunition without reloading and its like watching someone playing a third person shooter on the Xbox at times.

Bypass this - I wish I had!

I love movies; I love going into them blind. I learn things from every movie I watch and not having any insight to a movie I'm getting ready to watch is the best way to keep an open mind.

All because I'm an aspiring writer myself. I get a lot of practice for my writing by giving my opinion on movies I've recently watched here on the IMBD site. That said I try to stay positive; I do my absolute best to NOT BE A CRITIC. I have no experience in movie making whatsoever. So WHO AM I to say anything negative about the work of professional movie makers?

Well this one makes it HAAAARD to stay positive. So instead of being a critic, I'll just say "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME GUYS... cause this one won't put y'all over the top AT ALL."

01/31/2019 Must be Thanksgiving because I just watched most of the biggest "Turkey Movies" ever made. And Mr. I Got No Memory played by pretend actor Matthew Modine was the biggest gobbler of them all. Know why you haven't been seeing Matthew Modine In Movies? - And "Rocky The Stone"??? ... he's forced his way into the storyline too. He's still wearing his to tight "Because he's a Fat Head" 1960's leather Nehru jacket SUCKS too. And all of the supporting cast members??? - They hurl chunks, they all SUCK, big time, really big time!!! IMDb gives this piece of garbage 3.8 stars. I want to give it the sympathy that it deserves, the benefit of the doubt, the middle of the road review ... so I'll give it 2 stars, 1 star for all the lousy pretend actors in one movie, not busting out laughing while making the film, like the viewers did, and the 2nd star for any pretend actor who actually got paid by the production company? In case I failed to mention it, "This Movie Really, Really SUCKS". Bon Appetit

Great cast, horrible movie. Literally unwatchable. Save your time and move on.
