Jinkx Monsoon: Drag Becomes Him

After watching Jinkx win season 5 of RuPaul's Drag Race nearly 6 years after the fact, I stumbled across this film in hopes of just a small glimpse into their life. Oh, how I was surprised! This is a comprehensive documentary that dives into some of the most intimate moments into Jinkx/Jerick's life. Not once did I yawn while watching this eccentric personality unfold before me. No bars are held back.

What's more, the majority of the documentary is shot and told in the PNW, where I have the spent most of my own life. It was quite endearing to see shots of Portland and Seattle, and many of Jinkx's life experiences can attest to the PNW culture.

Overall, great film and this made me even more of a Jinkx fan. Thank you for this documentary!

From a young queen in Portland Oregon, to a Seattle queen, to Americas next drag super star and beyond! It has been a pleasure to watch these events from a distance being part of the community in Portland. Jinx is an amazing artist all around. This film is a beautiful look at who he is at the heart of it all. The honest interviews with his family shine a light on the struggles faced by many and give hope for overcoming some of those struggles. There is a bright future ahead of this amazing artist and getting an intimate look and how he had gotten to this point is a gift that he had given us by opening and sharing his world for all to see.

It was so interesting to see my favorite drag queen under this new light. At the end of the film you realize how they grew as Jerick, while Jinkx was taking over the world. The family interviews were very sincere and helped me understand more about how difficult the life of a person born to stand out can be sometimes. I rented this film for 24 hours and watched it six times, I couldn't stop myself. I love Jinkx, so I'm very grateful that Alex Berry wanted to film this documentary and let us fans and anyone who is interested get a glimpse of the life of this very talented, lovely and humble human being. It's always going to be MONSOON SEASON.

I was blessed to be in the audience at the premiere in Seattle with Jerick Hoffer, his family and his extended drag family. I watched it again yesterday for the second time. It's an amazing, honest, revealing documentary on how Jinkx Monsoon was born. Jerick was already a star before Rupaul's Drag Race but winning America's Next Drag Superstar brought him to a bigger audience. I loved the early film footage of his early drag performances. It's great to see the wonderful relationship and the loving support that he has with his family. Alex Berry and Basil Shadid have done a brilliant job and thank you for allowing us to see behind the curtain of this multi-talented drag performer's life. It's a must see documentary!! I feel like I know Jinkx Monsoon a lot more intimately than I did before!
