The title echoes a line from the 1890 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel, "The Sign of the Four," in which Sherlock describes his cocaine injection as a seven-per-cent solution. The "One Percent" comes from the movement that campaigns against rich people.

Goofs
When Joan is awakened by the chicken outside her door, her hair style changes three times within a few seconds: when she first gets up, when she then opens her door to find the chicken, and then when she carries it downstairs to complain to Holmes.
