VeggieTales in the House

I have to disagree with what the previous reviewer wrote. This show is really fun, goofy, silly, all the things the old show was. I'm only disappointed that there are so few episodes because I know my kids will watch them to an annoying extent.

Devo106 kept comparing it to the original shows. This wasn't meant to be a reboot. We can't always have Silly Songs With Larry. But this show is like the older ones. Maybe they hadn't watched the older ones in a long time, but my kids watch them ALL THE TIME. This new series has all the same silly humor, and the same silly Larry that the old "series" had.

Hello, this is PrincessAurorus and I'm here to review this show that definitely needs a sign for its ruined style towards the fact it had nothing to do with the designs and the humor itself. "If you throw the Rotten Tomatoes. If those jokes can't make you smile. If you hate those yams or potatoes? Stay away from it's own style." So what's it like watching this torture for those who grew up watching the original. Well we get Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki to voice the cast and-

Whu? Okay,two things. Num. 1, why is Mr. Nezzer named Ichabeezer? Can't they at least to a different name like Ebeneezer or Nebby K. Nezzer? Num. 2, why does he have a old man accent? Who played his voice? Rob Paulsen? Yeah the one who did Technus and I can't believe he voiced him. Well that was off... Who did Junior's voice. Tress McNeille? Are you kidding me? I can at least think of other actresses that did a better job. Elizabeth Daily, Tara Strong, Cree Summer, just to name a few. So why on earth would they do this to Veggietales. Even the olive hound looks scary.

The French Peas look awful and Madame Blueberry is way off from having a french-accent as Jimmy Gourd looks like the vegetable version of Freddy Fazbear. Like I said, it was stupid, unfunny, the songs are bad, and unwatchable to the fact I had a meltdown after this came out!

I hate VeggieTales in the House because it makes all of the characters look and sound too different. The casting department was too cheap to cast more than one replacement male and female actor for all the original characters not voiced by Mike or Phil! You can hear that problem in almost all of Tress MacNeille's female character voices, for example. Junior Asparagus, a young boy character, sounds too boyish, and not girly enough like the way Lisa's Junior originally sounded, Laura sounds uncomfortably high-pitched, and Madame Blueberry's new voice doesn't even try to have a French accent. The only female veggie whom Tress MacNeille can have sound close to her original voice is Petunia Rhubarb. Even with Phil and Mike voicing their own characters again, you can tell VeggieTales in the House has terrible voice direction, particularly in Archibald's voice. I liked having Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki reprise most of their characters in this series because that at least gave VeggieTales in the House some of the same identity that the original VeggieTales had, but it is very sad that, while they still get a credit for VeggieTales in the House being based on characters created by them, they don't write any VeggieTales in the House episodes of their own. However, Tim Hodge and Brian K. Roberts still got to direct some episodes, so they might be decent and resemble the spirit of the original film series more.

Like many VeggieTales fans who dislike in the House & City, and possibly Noah's Ark, we believe VeggieTales in the House/City takes place in an alternate universe from the veggies who acted out or experienced all of the stories in the original video series. From Where's God When I'm S-Scared up to Beauty and the Beet, as well as The VeggieTales Show, because all of the veggies have different designs and live in a little city below the countertop, which was only used to host Noah's Ark in this new world. Even if you can get past the bizarre new cheap animation style and different character voices, the writing is just not there. VeggieTales in the House & City has the bizarre energy of Fanboy & Chum Chum, which does not bode well with the original VeggieTales, and most of the time, Larry is an idiot and the stories are very uncreative and it is easy to guess what the lesson will be by the third minute of eleven. Furthermore, I feel very bad for Phil Vischer with VeggieTales in the House being more "de-Goded" than the qubo TV broadcasts of stories from VeggieTales videos in 23-minute episodes. Occasionally, a Bible verse will be read, but in an off-the-walls show like this that purged the religious aspects of VeggieTales, it doesn't feel the same to end every episode with the same "God made you special and He loves you very much" closing line from the original show.

Still, there are some things that I do enjoy and miss about VeggieTales in the House. It is much more watchable than the Japanese and Chinese spin-offs of Lilo & Stitch, The 2016 Powerpuff Girls, and My Little Pony: Pony Life, which are all bad spinoffs or reboots that butcher their Intellectual Property's predecessor very hard. I realized that there are some salvageable aspects of VeggieTales in the House since Callie Flower was good enough to come into the prime VeggieTales universe in The VeggieTales Show. Motato, Gary Garlic, Mr. & Tiny Pea, Shem, Granny Asparagus, Officer Wedge, and Ichabeezer are all other entertaining characters I may like to see redesigned one day in The VeggieTales Show. I still have a bit of respect for VeggieTales in the House for trying some new things. Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki definitely did not like Dreamworks and Netflix butchering their property with less intelligent writing, but maybe they enjoyed the new experience it gave them because, they had never voice acted in a half-hour Nickelodeon-type series. Phil Vischer pitched VeggieTales to Nickelodeon in 1991, but Nick was not interested in early computer animation one decade before Jimmy Neutron. I liked hearing their classic character voices in a slice-of-life setting, but in the House certainly could have used some better writing that felt more like VeggieTales even in their weird wacky city. VTitH is also worth watching because Phil and Mike also both voice a new recurring character, Phil Vischer is Granny Asparagus and Mike Nawrocki is Officer Wedge. I also liked having Rob Paulsen, who voiced Finnegan J. Beet from Beauty and the Beet, use the same voice for Ichabeezer in VeggieTales in the House because the same grouchy voice suited both characters. I was also surprised at how much I liked some of this show's new characters, like Motato, Tiny Pea and Callie Flower.

A wonderously generic and juvenile place, that is. I may be biased towards the original characters to a large degree since I grew up with the show, but speaking from the point of view of a lifelong animation fan who watches kids shows on a regular basis, this is abysmal.

Of course the most glaring problem with the new series is the character design, it's the big thing that everyone complains about. To put it simply, they're creepy. Hyper-realistic eyes may look good on more complex and humanoid characters, but on the minimalist veggie bodies, they're oversized and dead looking. The old characters had large eyes as well, but they were more cartoony and simple, and despite the creator's claims, they were about ten times more expressive than the eyes of the new ones.

While the animation is the most obvious problem, the biggest one by far would be the complete lack of original writing. Every single episode so far has a story that you've seen a hundred times before, and nothing is done to make it more interesting, it's just the same, generic junk you see in every cheap cartoon ever.

In addition to the plots, the way certain characters are written bother me as well, particularly Larry. His iconic obliviousness has been replaced by what I can only describe as severe mental degradation. Larry is obviously still an "adult" cucumber, but he acts in a way more fitting to a small child. There is a way to make characters relatable to kids without them turning into childish morons. Need proof? Watch any classic VT movie and see how the silly, kid appeal character is supposed to be done.

The rest of the characters are as bland as streamed vegetables. The writers have tried to give some of the older characters with little personality to speak of from the classics (the female ones specifically) and in doing so either made them somehow even more one- dimensional (Petunias) or extremely annoying (Laura). Mr. Nezzer's new personality also really bothers me. They renamed him for absolutely no reason and turned him into a complete jerk. It was quite shocking to see the affable Nezzer cheer on a fight or give Larry and Laura an angry glare when they ask to pet his dog thing.

VeggieTales started out as the Christian answer to the mindless cartoons of the era and the cheesy Christian kids shows that were out at the time. The originals were full of wit and charm, and despite the primitive animation, people loved the series for its humor and utilization of classic stories from the Bible to give moral lessons to kids rather than just entertainment.

This show is the complete antithesis of that.

This show is annoying and obnoxious, it gets up in your face with its annoyance and obnoxiousness and doesn't let up until the credits roll. The jokes are dull and stupid, and you've seen them all before. The characters are unrecognizable and irritating. This show is like the equivalent to that one really annoying little cousin who tells you the same jokes you've heard a million times every time you meet and can never seem to shut up or sit still.

If, for some horrible reason, Phil Vischer had passed away after the release of Jonah, (not wishing death, I love you, Phil) he would be spinning his grave. This show fails on every single level, and I really do have a sneaking suspicion that he and Mike regret their involvement in it, because it goes against everything they worked so hard to create. Phil was once quoted as saying he felt as though VeggieTales was a failure at teaching what he wanted it to teach, (The Bible) so I wouldn't be surprised if his biggest motivation to help create this series was money rather than love and devotion

This show is terrible at everything it tries to do, and if I worked at Netflix I'd order it to be cancelled, but since I can't do that I'll just say this: don't watch this if you love the original series. You will be disappointed and angry. But if you want something for your kid to watch to keep him quiet for 22 minutes, be my guest. Just don't be surprised if he keeps having nightmares about giant, hyper-realistic cartoon produce coming to get him.

The show looks like an anime rip-off. Here are some things: 1. Bob and Larry has eyebrows and tongue. 2. Larry looks like a pickle. 3. Petunia sounded like a teenager. 4. Madame Blueberry sounded too British, not French. 5. Junior Asparagus sounded like Jimmy Neutron. 6. Laura the Carrot sounded like female version of Timmy Turner. 7. Archibald looks too skinny and his British accent sounded like he had a frog in his throat. 8. Jean Claude and Philipe looked like circus freaks. 9. Ichabod "Ichabeezer" Money Nezzer sounded like Carl Wheezer, who went for a drink at a bar. 10. Jimmy has cravings or some sort. His brother, Jerry, is too stupid like Sheen from Jimmy Neutron. AND THEIR TEETH LOOKED LIKE VAMPIRE TEETH!!!!!

And that's why, Big Idea should replace Dreamworks with Paramount Pictures/Animation. They love racist stuff.
