This show has very interesting story that goes into the depths of types of zombie, vaccine creating, new world etc. But direction and the implementation of the show is really bad. like really bad. Stupid action sequences, bad acting and no connecting (explored) character. protagonist in the series is equal to some superhero and very stupidly unrealistic execution of the story.
The question that arise after watching this, is why in the hell would spend so much money and come up with something so bad?
The director should not even let near a studio never the less let him direct a Movie or TV show. didn't he look at it at least?
Makes you wonder how these people are getting a job in the first place. 3 years after the world ends and the roads a perfectly clean and the lawn mowed? really? Delta force that looks like a drug addict? everyone wearing clean as clothing? Things that don't make any sense? Did even the makers of this show watch a zombie movie before? Stop taking your viewers as mindless objects. Bring back the Walking Dead this show is a joke!

It is not often I will give up on a series as quickly as I did this one, but it was just so bad, I only got half way through the second episode before giving up.
Other than lots of killing of zombies in all manner of bloody ways, the show has virtually no redeeming qualities whatsoever. None of the characters are likable in any way, shape or form, and the script is hollow and inconsistent.
In fact it is actually amazing how loathsome the cast are. How can the makers of this show expect to attract an audience when the viewer cannot invest with any of the lead characters. They really are that unlikeable that I wanted to kill them. However I just settled for switching off the show instead.
These are a group of human survivors who are strangers, with cars, food and weapons, who are on a mission to 'save the world' so to speak, and have joined together to do so,yet will not help any other survivors unless there is something in it for them. They really are a bunch of arseholes.
Another major issue I had was the inconsistent behaviour of the zombies. Zombies are not complicated creatures. See person eat person. Yet in the second episode while walking up stairs filled with zombies, two of the characters are brushing past them, yet hardly any zombies actually reach for them.
Another thing that annoyed me was when they were driving through zombies mowing them down. They left the windows down for God's sake.. Seriously, if you're going to be running over the undead, surely you have the sense to wind up your window so as you do not get splattered, and infected yourself.
Usually when I see a show as bad as this, I wouldn't trash it like this, as no matter what I may think, someone has gone to a lot of effort to produce it and deserves kudos for doing so. But this is one show that should never had gone to air. It is truly awful.
Indeed unless you are a zombie yourself, or at least have the same intellectual capacity as one, I'd steer clear, and perhaps spend the time doing some of those nasty chores you've been putting off. It will be more enjoyable, and they won't get in the way when all the good shows begin their new season in the coming weeks.

As a die hard Zombie Genre fan, I was very disappointed in this show. The acting is not very good. I've watched about 4 episodes and I won't be watching anymore. It's just not good. Of course I compared it to The Walking Dead, but in all fairness TWD is in a league of their own and nothing else will compare to it's brilliance. ZNation is one of the shows that you watch when nothing else is on.I just don't understand the character development at all. It jumps all over the place. I keep telling myself to give it time and it will grow on me, but it hasn't grow on me yet. This is a Syfy series so my expectation for it being really good was somewhat low anyway. Now, Syfy has some great movies and shows but sometimes I think they go a bit overboard.

Why on earth are people still putting up with the garbage that is Asylum? I know that once I see this logo, I can just go ahead and pass. Yet, I gave this show a chance. Sadly, I was right again. SyFy, I am ashamed of what you have become, and Asylum....just....why??
In only one episode, the story (as tired and bad as it is) already became fractured beyond repair. The decision making skills of the characters resembles that of grammar school children, although I have more faith in small children to be better at life than these characters are. They are written so horribly, that I am having trouble finding words to describe this waste of time, without swearing.
The acting is to a point where I just sit there shaking my head, and what's worse is, the acting is the best part of this show. Do these actors have no pride left? The directors, producers, consultants, writers....should be fired...immediately. Just absolute garbage, through and through. I actually got sick to my stomach sitting through 2 episodes of this.
The zombies aren't even consistent for Christ's sake.....at one point, the characters were able to just walk around the zombies without trouble due to some tapping noises....REALLY?? Before that, the zombies could run, jump, hop fences, jump on cars.....just...horrible.
Do yourselves a favor, and don't even bother. I actually feel dumber after watching this pile of trash. I gave it a 2/10 only because 2 of the actors still seem to give a crap, and have some semblance of talent. I just hope they wake up and run from this utter travesty before it's too late.

So i promised myself i would give an opportunity to this show, however after seeing 10 minutes of s02ep01 i cant stop telling myself how stupid i am for watching this.
The zombies didn't change from one season to other, and i think i can talk for some fans who were expecting something more from this one. Awful colors and personalization, zombies don't run... don't put zombies running, because you will kill the purpose of "being" a zombie. And lesbian zombies...? Suddenly food in a random house when all place gone to hell?
Do people a solid.

If humans were in a zombie apocalypse, and the only survivors were the type of people that wrote this show or those who gave it a 10/10 review, there would be no hope for humanity. This show has some of the worst writing, acting, costume design, and set design I have every had the misfortune of experiencing....but the writing is the biggest crime. This show is a complete waste of the money used to produce it, and could be considered one sign that true entertainment may be dying. The story/plot is uninspired and completely unoriginal, and is technically unsound. Cheap thrills, loopholes, and terrible acting, are only able to entertain the most simple-minded viewers. Reviewers giving this work a 10/10 score are either on heavy drugs, or are completely unaware of what quantifies "good entertainment". The events and writing just don't make sense...simple as that. The characters suffer from pure idiocy when executing actions (not to mention they've been experiencing the apocalypse for years), and should be skilled when making the most basic of decisions....but aren't. The only worthwhile character with any good acting qualities, is the old-timer with medication. I feel like someone should be paying ME for having sat through this. Any fan of true art and entertainment should stay far away from this travesty, which tries to pass itself off as watchable. I can't believe people actually made money for making this.
I initially gave it a 1 star. I tossed in a bone for 2 stars. Why, oh why, doesn't SYFY get the talented teams that created some of SYFY Networks most wonderful commercials to develop some original series and movies for them? Z Nation would be a very low grade film, so making this into a 'series' is a major shame and waste of time and money. The story line could have been interesting (from a post apocalyptic point of view), if the dialog and character development were any good, which they are not. Dialogue is cheesy (not in a fun way either), and the actors are very bland. The video quality is also horrible and very stale to the eyes. Anything worth making is worth making right. Sheesh. How hard is that?
Z Nation is no where near as good as The Walking Dead! TWD has interesting sub-plots with the characters, delving into what happened before and after the Zombie Virus broke out so you can really see how this has changed all of them (for worse or better). I don't care about ANY of the characters in Z Nation so far, except maybe Citizen Z (DJ Qualls) and his dog. OK...the Zombie Baby was kind of creepy fun; albeit fleeting.
SYFY has failed miserably with launching Z Nation. What kind of 'Kool-Aid' were their executives drinking?

The actor's are all reading like lines like a high school play and the product quality fits.
Zombies have no consistency. Sometimes complete idiots, other times far smarter than the humans.
No comedy that I could find in the first few episodes, but many many frustrating points.
Avoid.

It is understandable to give mercy to people who are already dead, but this is a motto that can settle in the unconscious minds of bad people as a cover for cruel practices or behavior towards sick and suffering people today. I give you mercy, which is repeated in the series, is injected into their subconscious as a motto that mad people can use to cover up their evil in real life. TV series and movies need to be handled more carefully because of the wrong messages they will give to the society, both directly and indirectly.
There are some fun kills in this show, but overall it's a very pale imitation of much better zombie shows, especially the one zombie show that this show is obviously trying the hardest to imitate - "The Walking Dead."
The effects are not the worst I've ever seen but they're hardly the best either. Some of them are laughable and I don't think they're doing it for intentional laughs. Blood splatter, CGI zombie eyes and gore in general are pretty sub-par.
The acting isn't bad. I'm always entertained by DJ Qualls for whatever reason, even in this where the writers have him delivering some pretty awful lines and doing some pretty unbelievable (sometimes laughable stupid) things.
But the main thing that kills me about this show is the complete lack of any logic whatsoever.
The characters they come across are pretty unbelievably stupid. The villains are one dimensional, have no depth, and don't last long enough to even start gaining any depth. It's hard to even care about the heroes of the story, they're so thinly written.
So that's about it. The main problem is the incredibly lazy writing. Some decent actors are wasted. The characters are shallow, unbelievable and we form no real connection with any of them... in short, skip this show.

But the main thing that kills me about this show is the complete lack of any logic whatsoever.
- speaking of DJ Qualls, where is everyone else at his base? There's not even any bodies? I guess he's not worried at all about power or fuel since he's obviously got tons of meat in a freezer, all the lights on and the heat cranked enough that he's hanging out in his Arctic base in a short-sleeved Hawaiian shirt with everything always turned on.
- the show begins with a camp being overrun by zombies and the few survivors get over it immediately... even their bus load of children who get eaten.
- every time one of these people comes across a radio and uses it (i.e. a walkie in a random police cruiser) DJ Qualls immediately picks it up on his computer screen. As unlikely/stupid it is to believe that this one guy and his one computer could be monitoring every signal everywhere at the same time and picking them up immediately, my main problem with this is that there are a lot of survivors all over the place. Wouldn't people everywhere be trying to use radios to call for help? Using them to contact each other? The phone lines are actually working (how?!) but I guess no one else is tying up the lines in case DJ Qualls needs to get in touch with Addie? So stupid.
- the characters are one dimensional with flawed (if any) logic and flimsy motivation. In episode one they meet up and pretty much immediately decide to band together with a strange girl they find in a cage, an obviously unbalanced teen aged sniper and an on edge "leader" (why is he the leader again?) to get the world's biggest jerk, who obviously is a liar, all the way to California because he's the cure or some such nonsense.
- none of these people think to say "hey, DJ Qualls, if you're the army can't you send a unit to pick this guy up, who have a much better chance of getting him there? Or maybe just one plane or chopper? And if not because everyone is dead, then who the heck is waiting for us in California? Anyone?" They all just blindly follow this insane plan to get him "to California" - where in California? It doesn't matter, I guess, since none of them even bother to ask. They're just like, "yep! We'd better get him to that state then!"
- if their mission is really so important to them, what's with all the side trips? The quickest way to California from NYC is not through Philadelphia then Washington, D.C. Where are they going and why? Do none of them have a map? Why is DJ Qualls not using satellites to give them the safest possible route, or questioning why they're going south through heavily populated, zombie-infested areas instead of west to California? Why are they all doing this instead of going quickly west to get rid of this jerk/use him to find a cure quickly?
- can someone please tell me why people are setting elaborate traps in order to steal their truck?! This is a post-apocalyptic world where almost everyone is dead. Guess what they left behind: vehicles. Fuel. Also, canned and preserved food. Clothing. Bottled water. Entire water towers full of water. Why are they so filthy, hungry, thirsty and desperate for transportation all the time? Why are they using toilet paper like currency? When the world went to hell did everyone use up and burn all their toilet paper before they turned? These people and this story are insane.
The characters they come across are pretty unbelievably stupid. The villains are one dimensional, have no depth, and don't last long enough to even start gaining any depth. It's hard to even care about the heroes of the story, they're so thinly written.

Yea... yea, I get it, you hate fan-boys as much as the next guy, and 90% of the supporting reviews I've read uses the excuse "People just give it bad ratings because of The Walking Dead!" Well, yea that's true, but mostly people give it a bad ratings because its just bad. It's bad casting, bad acting, bad writing, bad filming... just bad.
The second reason people hate this show is because it's a rip-off. Generally, the public doesn't like the guy who tries to profit off of another's success. Clearly, Z Nation is doing this to TWD, so I am honestly kind of surprised that you are surprised by peoples ratings.
If you really like this show, then cool. +1 for you. It doesn't really matter if everyone likes this show or not. If you do, then keep watching it. As for me though, I'll try to forget this show as soon as possible. I like a little more drama and darkness than what this offers.

The acting is horrendous. Comparable to a low budget lifetime or hallmark movie. I don't understand how Black Summer is supposed to be a prequel to this show.

Been there done that.you need to be a zombie to enjoy this. first season ok but gets same story lines over and over again.
A poor version of The Walking Dead for the less intelligent. It's sure to be a big hit in red states and brexit counties.
