A good show gone bad

Z Nation was initially a fairly entertaining show - not great, but a competent cast, competent writing, good plotting and fast pace. But after a few seasons - two, maybe three - it changed. The plots became bizarre (and not in a good way), the pacing slowed to an excruciating level, the constant cast changes shattered the original dynamic, and the only action was the same zombie-head-bashing fight scene repeated endlessly.

I would have given the first two seasons a rating of 8/10, but the show has been steadily losing traction and the 3/10 rating I give it now is actually generous.

another crappy syfy channel series

syfy just don't know how to make a good TV series, its not in the same league as the walking dead. bad actors/bad acting but you cant really blame them for the dumb dialogue that was written for them.

there is nothing new here as its stuff we've seen before in the walking dead and zombie movies.

cinematography is just meh to say the least.

special effects so far looks to be done by pregrad students, maybe i there 2nd year.

I'll keep watching it to see how bad its going to get but since i dl the episodes i can fast forward through them

I want this 43 minutes of my life back

SyFy and Asylum, that's a crap fest and we're all well aware of it going in. No hiding it. When Harold Perrineau shows up I'm like OK cool maybe this won't be so bad, he's a really good actor. Maybe they are going to spend some money on this thing.

WRONG! Cheap junk, a half ass'd attempt to cash in on the Walking Dead. Which is sad considering a zombie apocalypse show it's relatively inexpensive to make compared to hard sci-fi or superheroes, you know, the stuff that should be on a channel called SyFy.

The over all premise is good and the people who created it probably had the best intentions till SyFy and the Asylum cheeped out on it as only they collective could. The story, special effects and acting is what sucks and that's too bad because with a little effort in any or all of these area it could have been fun.

I gave this 3 stars because Harold Perrineau was in it, and that does count for something. DJ Qualls is in it also and his character could be fun long term... but that really is about all this has going for it and I'm really being generous. With the exception of the these 2 actors, everyone else involved with this mess should be ashamed. This is bad, even by SyFy/Asylum standards, or lack there of.

So unless your standards are low and desperation for something Zombie to fill the next few weeks till The Walking Dead returns, avoid at all costs.

An Absolute Fun Fest!!

But only the first two seasons. No BS, just give 'Mercy' ... eh!!

However, if you begin watching the third season you will feel trapped in quicksand and the moment you start watching the fourth season, you might feel that you are actually becoming a zombie. Not just that, if you arrive at season 5, you would be begging to one of the producers of the show for your own mercy. You might wanna start watching something that makes sense in a zombie apocalypse tv show. For a start, season 5 has talking zombies. Sigh.

This show would've been a hit if they have had concluded it with season 3 but they took it a bit far with seasons 4 & 5 but still better thab the crringe of 'The Walking Dead' with 11 seasons of torture and neuro issues resulting in a brain coma.

What's that smell, oh wait it is this show, it smells like garbage

This show is garbage.

1. The acting is terrible. 2. The writing is terrible. 3. Only 2 episodes in and is totally predictable. 4. The guy in the Northern Lights outposts directing them to California is a good plot device but you should not have made him a wimpy pansy ass.

I watched 2 episodes and that will be it. Most of what SiFy comes out with other then Battlestar and SGU is crap. I'm surprised a giant snake/shark/spider has not jumped out and tried to eat them.

I have to add more lines to meet the recommended IMDb requirement so here it goes.

This show sucks. This show is the south end of a north bound horse. I am going to the bathroom right now and going to drop this show off at the pool

That was fun thanks for making me do this IMDb.

Don't waste your time with this one.

Z Nation is pathetic

After watching ep1: maybe.. After ep2. Huh After ep3: this here stinks big time. I really don't know what they were thinking when they OKed this turkey.

Maybe they were trying to cash in on the success of the Walking Dead. If so, they failed abysmally. I haven't seen Sharknado, but from what I've read about it, maybe the idea was a sort of Zombnado; who knows.

Z Nation has none of these; the script/dialog, or lack thereof, is terrible. And just to show that they lacked credible ideas they stick a guy in the arctic region repeating the same lines over and over into a radio just to kill time. And now they came up with a dog to keep him company, so that the guy is now talking to 'someone' instead of thinking out loud.

The acting is horrendous. Can't imagine the actors' work here will look good on the CVs.

At least The Strain, another zombie show, for the most has a good script and good acting and cinematography. It is a sample of a show that can easily compete with the Walking Dead.

My recommendation is to avoid Z Nation. Go clean the toilet instead, you will enjoy that experience more.

SyFy creates yet another poor-quality knockoff

I was really looking forward to this, since I've been a fan of "The Walking Dead" for years and have become frustrated at its quality recently having flagged here and there. There is some great material available to would-be zombie apocalypse story writers, as primitive fear-threat and hunter-killer and run-and-hide are timeless themes that, properly manipulated, can be thrilling, and then some. Boy, was I ever disappointed by the first two episodes of SyFy's highly touted new series. The characters are silly, largely one-sided, and generally flat; the situations are implausible; the monsters are largely non-threatening, moving about as rapidly as diseased tortoises; and--almost incredibly--the plot lines are, simply put, uninteresting. Once again, SyFy took something promising and turned it into an dull pap of mindless also-ran.

Cheap-Z

Yes it is bad as we say.. I should receive a "Purple Heart" for making it through the pilot episode.

Thee tagline should be: "Made by Zombies, for Zombies"

I don't know what it is with the SciFi channel. It's as if they really go out of their way to make their shows as cheap and bad as possible.

The whole show is basically a piece of Zombie excrement. The acting is horrible..although I'm not sure you can blame the actors as maybe the horrid directing, and, or, the writing left them with little to work with.

In lieu of using more physical special effects (expensive make-up jobs, fake limbs, fake blood, etc.) they went for cheap first term college student level CGI effects where the majority of the gun hits and what not looked very fake.

The rotund shady producer, big cigar in mouth, says: "Hey kid, Ya'wana be on the TV?". Answer: "Yessireebob!, I was sure fix'n to".

Overly stereotyped, presumptuous to the point of absurdity, very predictable. A lot of it just made little to no sense at all. For example how could a human survive locked up in cage with out food for more then a few days (and not have turned into a Zombie already)?

They obviously took parts of the "Walking Dead" and other Zombie films/books and turned it into a cheapskate hodgepodge garbage movie/series.

You've been warned, watch it at your own peril..

I will end up watching the whole season

This is really bad (think about the worst syfy movie you have ever watched...lol it was better than this). Now that being said you should have a low expectation so just sit back and enjoy it for what it is "better than nothing". Yeah we could pick holes in just about everything in this show or say seen that in this movie or that has been done before but really why over think it just enjoy the ride. I treat it as a comedy Citizen Z provides a laugh every episode and not every program has to be an award winner.....ohh wait this could win a Razzie . Considering Syfy have axed top shows like Sanctuary and Stargate Sg1/Atlantis I really can't see a second season so this show will be granted the mercy of a cancellation.

Poor

I've tried, gone away come back and tried again! But ho-hum, there's no getting away from the fact this series poor on every level. I really want to be generous, but I can't. Scripts are bad, acting is unremarkable, the effects are pitiful (reference to the baby in the first episode). The direction is confused to say the least. Why do SYFY cancel really great shows, that by all accounts are being enjoyed if not relished by a lot of the viewing public, to fund/finance inane rubbish like this. If this series was any worse it would be hilarious, and achieve immediate cult status, sadly it doesn't. Please bin this series and bring back Alphas! Not that their going to listen to me!!

Most HORRIBLE thing in zombie apocalypse is the background noise.

Some episode of this series are really well written and funny. Comedic characters are plenty and they fit in well to the overall take of the show. Doc has plenty of funny quotes that I regret I didn't write down. The show does have its entertaining moments. And the actors are all very good, nothing to complain there. The overall plot isn't bad either: I'm usually fast to blame the writing, but it wasn't bad here. Some episodes were boring but the story archs were pretty good. I would recomment to watch the show. But there is one big but. What bugs me to no limit is the background audio of the show. It has this static noise and mechanic sounds background always, except when someone speaks. Makes me VERY difficult to watch this show. Who was the idiot who created this soundscape?

Quite bad not even close to The Walking Dead

There is no consistency with the zombies, it depends on what the series needs sometimes they are fast, others slow, sometimes they die easy others hard. Zombies are drawn to sound, but when they fire guns they don't come running. The story is really chaotic, a lot of things have no logic. 3 years after the outbreak they don't even worry about ammo and use it like it's infinite. Cuts are really sudden everything moves too fast.

Good story, annoying cast

I mean, it's a good zombie series. Lots of zombies killing people, & people killing zombies.

Plot & storylines are pretty good. Acting is average, even with it being camp/cheesy whatever.

My biggest problem is that these people are 3 years into a zombie apocalypse. Presumably among the few survivors by having been careful & smart. Yet they constantly make terrible decisions. Going into buildings without clearing them, not keeping watch, half-arsed defences. One girl got into a car without checking the backseat!

Honestly, they could do with watching Zombieland, & learning the rules from that!

So addendum: Gave up half way through Season 2. The entertainment value stopped outweighing the annoying value. Too many dumb storylines, too many idiots dying needlessly, too much corny/gungho acting.

It is Bad (but in a "Good" Way)

This is completely horrible - but I cannot stop watching. This show has some the worst writing I have seen in a long time and it is so bad, that it is almost good. There are so many clichés and most of the time, you can guess exactly what is going to happen. The show is executed in a way that is so bad, that you find yourself laughing.

The characters are just strange, the plot is even stranger and the dialogue, oh boy. Honestly, it is just stupid - but it is good if you just need something to watch. However, if you want to watch something that is exciting and actually well-written, then you do not want to watch this.

I'm sorry

I wanted to give this a shot- but having been a spoiled with the well thought out plots, the thrills and the stories behind the lines of TWD - this is a complete B-series with what feels like B- actors, even though they've been okay in other films and series. I gave it a chance, but nope - too bad a narrative for my taste

Cheesy, with extra cheese

I like Zombie films - I really do. Reading many reviews about Z Nation on IMDb, I have spotted a trend - if you are prepared to suspend belief and forgive the awful script, dreadful acting and stupid plot lines, you can amuse your eyeballs for a while. If, on the other hand, you want actors who can act, script-writers who can create a story and keep the viewer entertained, and a plot that doesn't resemble a colander, I would give it a miss. Oh, a passing gripe of mine: slow-moving Zombies that make a growling noise always seem to surprise the survivors who have had years to get accustomed to their ways, and the Zombies always seem to 'appear' in wide open areas where you could spot them easily. Or hear them. Or both. Got that off my chest. If you're bored, you may just tolerate this. If you're looking for quality, I recommend you give it a wide berth. TWD is much, much better. If you don't like my review, bite me (see what I did there?)

How can anyone give a good rating to this ?!?

After reading some reviews that called unjust the reviews this series was getting, told my self I would watch the first few episodes to see if any of the bad reviews where unfounded.

After watching 4 episodes, I cannot understand why people are giving a good ratting to such a pathetic execution of the Zombie genre.

Acting is appalling, CG look's like it was done by third graders. There is nothing to like about this show. The entire production is sub par. I am a huge fan of horror and zombie related material, but this just doesn't make the cut.

They steal ideas from other great source material and just aren't able to construct anything credible or watchable from it. From the bits they stole from World War Z novel and the entire plethora of exploration of the zombie genre, one would think they could make something good. Boy was I wrong.

Do not waste your time.

A Good Story Poorly Executed

The pilot has a good story and blistering-fast pace, but the writing, acting and direction are all lacking. Also, it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. It's not serious, it's not funny, and it lacks cohesion. I'm going to pass.
