I give up

My expectations for Season 4 were very low. After a good Season 1 the quality had been sliding so the trajectory already didn't bode well for the series. Then we had Henry Cavill leaving, largely because of the writing. His performance and sheer presence were about the only things making The Witcher semi-watchable.

So we knew we were down to a shell of season - writing already a shambles, star of the show gone. Yet I gave this a chance. I figured, how bad can it be? Surely there will be something to keep us entertained.

Yet, despite these low expectations, I was still disappointed.

It's just so boring. The plot is an absolute mess - random, pointless. Character engagement is zero - characters are badly drawn and there's absolutely nobody to support. Liam Hemsworth does his best to try to fill Henry Cavill's shoes and does a decent job but it was always going to be impossible to replace Cavill.

So that's it, I'm out. I did my best to keep going but it was an impossible task.

All these Cavill crybabys...

Are so annoying. Hemsworth is doing a decent job. The series has now more going on than in the earlier seasons. The ensemble is great. Personally I thought from the start that the witcher is not the most interesting character of these stories. Stop the whining, quit watching, turn to something else ! I enjoy it.

Getting better

Despite all the dismay and public outcry, it's pretty much the same quality as before. This episode is an improvement on the first of this season. More interesting and introduces a beloved character from the book. Enough to keep me going 😁 not a fan of the Falka plotline but it doesn't look as bad as it was in the book yet (hope it keeps that way haha)

Just awful.

Wow, this is bad. I've never gone from liking a show so much to hating it so much. The recasting single-handedly ruined this entire show. Hemsworth literally cannot act his way out of a paper bag. His version of Geralt is a train wreck. Whiny, emotional, nothing like the character is supposed to be...just awful. And the writing for this new season is atrocious.

Why change the story if its not better

The Gerald actor change is ok although i prefer Henry it was not bad you can get used to it. But the story changes are bad it fails to deliver thrill and it doesn't create any drama i mean the archer had a sad story which here is a happy fella. The alchemist and Gerald share a secret from the beginning which created a mystery here not. Emir knew that ciri was a fake infact he is the one that order a fake to gain support which was a good strategy to think about here he is just a fool while in the books he is a great strategist and although we see that he has a soft and kind side he is almost always mean.

Seriously, folks...

Yes, the lead actor has changed, but it is the same "bad" wig. The writing is still good. The acting is still good. Those of us that have not read the books are enjoying the story. Not everyone is nit-picky about details. Who cares is the horse is not the "right color". Overall, this series has been quite enjoyable.

Such bad writing

The writing and the majority of the acting is so unbelievably cringe. Whether or not the story follows the books is irrelevant. Even if it does/doesn't, the actors are behaving as though they in a pantomime. It's so over the top. It's like the writers have written the script on the assumption that the viewers are only half watching. So, those of us who are actually paying attention to the acting and the words being said, find it incredibly painful to watch this soap opera type acting.

It's awful.

Shame on you Netflix!

Facepalm at its fullest.

First of all.

Other than the names and locations, this has nothing to do with the Witcher in the books or games anymore.

Liam hemsworth doesn't looks and act like the witcher in the book and game and doesn't need to prepare with potions for fights anymore.

Its unwatchable at least. Why hasn't he prepared in case his weapons are broken. Why not buy new ones from merchants. Are there even merchants in the witcher show?

Oh i forgot. Lazy writing.

S4 second episode i was facepalming the entire time. Theese third class bandit group was unwatchable. Like the rest of the episode.

At least Henry Cavill looked and acted like the witcher in the first 3 seasons.

Better they had ended the show after 3 seasons.

What an TVembarassing episode.

Excellent episode and season

I love the direction of the show this season. Definitely better than seasons 2 and 3 imo.

Liam feels more like Geralt to me. Don't listen to the hate. He does a great job of easing you into his portrayal of the character. Gave it a 10 just to balance the scale from these people who obviously just want to take a dump on something. It's more like an 8 for me, but I really enjoyed it.

Characters are waaaaay off

All the characters and plot are so away from the books in all aspects (personality, traits, beliefs etc.) so it's like watching something else. This is not Witcher. It's like watching a generic medieval fantasy drama, with forced planted stuff to please audiences. I was expecting embracing the rich plot and lore of the books. Instead, I just watched something with the name "Witcher".

Simply lost

Honestly, I couldn't watch it without Henry Cavill. The soul of the show seems to have vanished with him. Everything-from the tone to the direction and even the background music-feels off. The world that once felt raw and immersive now looks artificial and disconnected. Cavill didn't just play Geralt; he was Geralt. Without him, it just doesn't feel like The Witcher anymore.

Recap

So now that I went back to watch Cavils performance do I know why this season seemed so off with Liam. Liam can't act the part. He sucks at matching his facial expressions correctly according to the scene and moment. While Cavil did it effortlessly. He isn't showing the right emotions at the right times. Honestly I think Chris Hemsworth would have done a better job at it than Liam. He would have made the transition smoother. Expecting Liam to pick up where Cavil left off was a mistake. Maybe after longer time getting used to the role but definitely not now. Either way it's sad. Cuz it's a good show but it's cringy to watch now.

No can do

This was as far as I could go in this last season, wasn't even able to finish watching this ep tbf. It felt like I was watching a caricature of Geralt of Rivia, appalling. And it also, who would of guess, fails miserably at that.

Its almost as if the writers and producers were salty of being called out on the poor quality of their work and made this as a provocation to the ones that enjoy the novels or played the games.

Maybe the season picks up, but seriously doubt it, am re reading the novels to try and detox from what I just watched.

This Zena Reboot Sucks

What the hell? Horrible writing, worse acting and no point or plot. The production quality is seriously at Zena: The Warrior Princess level. They ruined a perfectly good IP. Liam isn't horrible but disappointing they just tried to replace Geralt instead of introducing a new Witcher. There seemed like room for good choices, they just didn't make them.

Think I'm done.

This ep continues in the same poor vein as the first for this season. More sulking, moreinane walking/ridding with lots of exposition but no drama or development.

I thought Hemsworth the lesser would be the worse bit, but while he is no Caville, he isn't the worse bit.

The writing in particular is just so average, so predictable and lacking any feel or depth. It's like watching someone else playing a slow RPG with predictable next quest until they all meet up again.

I just don't care what is going, the new characters are mostly bland, poorly played and honestly hope they die.

Most of the performances are phoned in, even Jaskier lacks his usual vitality. Yenefer is the only one who seems to be trying, but the story line around doesn't help. She just another one of the three building a team but in a slow and boring way.

It took me 3 attempts to get through ep 1, while only 1 from this, I was mostly looking at my phone, not the show.

The only positive is the special effects are up a few notches but everything else, everything that made it interesting has been sacrificed. Did they change the writers, it feels they cut corners there in particular.

Honestly, not sure will keep wayching.

Good episode

The story is moving along nicely. The Falka storyline is better here, Liam doesn't quite have the presence of Henry but delivers his lines better, Yen is "carrying" the main "world" arch right now and Fishburne was a nice addition. Jeskier feels a little underutilized at the moment, but with the storyline is already split into three (3.5 with fake Freya?) so some juggling is understandable. The books and game are at odds so it's good to see the show not try to be a direct copy of either as that would be boring.
