Better Writing Could Have Raised It Up
Interesting episode, centered around Sheldon's birthday party. In addition to the regular folks, Adam West is hired to attend. There is a special laptop visit from Stephen Hawking. Leslie Winkle (Sara Gilbert) shows up. There are toasts all around and Sheldon is Sheldon. I don't usually comment on this sort of thing, but Penny was absolutely striking.
Sheldon charm doesn't work anymore
Since Sheldon's character became so popular and likable, the show pretty much concentrated on him, rather than other characters who became later on side characters. And then this got too obvious and predictable that the show needed new characters, nevertheless, when got stuck, the writers used the "Deus-Ex Machina Sheldon" tool again just to invent something out of Sheldon's past and then make the whole episode about him.
This became so predictable like we're literally saying "OK now what's next?" and then yawning. This episode is entirely focused on Sheldon and even the story is not convincing. I bet they'll include his sister very soon. In fact, you can all predict everything already:
1) When will Amy and Sheldon get married? 2)Leonard and Penny will def. have a baby soon 3)Raj may have another "nerd" girlfriend
And then yawn. The writers probably ran out of stories already. That might explain why they jump in another "Sheldon themed" episode and again, again and again.
PS: Is this the 200th episode that they made such fuss about? No way!

Love this episode
Love Sheldon.
Although episodes in the past were better (of course)
But I still love these episodes.
Love the good writing on the evolvement of the characters, and I have nothing else to say, it's all written in the headline above.
Okay, but doesn't stand out
By today's standards, this episode is average at most. Nothing really stands out, even for a 200th episode. The group gets together to celebrate Sheldon's birthday and they invite a few surprise guests over, as well. Adam West hardly does a thing and Leslie Winkle (Gilbert) only appears briefly, so the episode doesn't really stand out and blends in with most of the season. With the 200th episode, you expect something special, something that impacts and changes the lives of the characters. For example, the 100th episode got Penny and Leonard back together! Maybe the writers should have waited a couple of more episodes before announcing Bernadette's pregnancy? That would have been a perfect impact for the 200th episode! There are some funny wisecracks and even a sentimental moment between Sheldon and Penny, but if you're expecting something ground breaking from this, you're in for a disappointment.
Did you know
- TriviaLeslie Winkle returns and makes a special guest appearance. She was never mentioned between her previous appearance, season 3's The Lunar Excitation (2010), and this episode. This is Gilbert's final appearance on the show.
- GoofsHoward mentions Bale personified the words "I am Batman". These words were ad-libbed by Micheal Keaton who was supposed to say "I am the night". Tim Burton kept the sentence as he liked it more than the scripted one, meaning Bale just reused it.
- Quotes
Leslie Winkle: In the past I would have said something obnoxious, like "Happy birthday, dumbass," but I'm not going to do it. You and I have both grown a lot, and it's just so nice to see you all again. So... Happy birthday, Sheldon.
Sheldon Cooper: Oh now, you know I hate change. Say it.
Leslie Winkle: Happy birthday, dumbass!
