A Murder is Announced (2)

Miss Marple

1 review
10/10

It's brilliant, faultless.

The Inspector struggles to discover any new leads, Miss Marple begins her own investigation, perfectly disguised as an old lady simply asking questions. One of the guests at that ill fated party remembers something, something that costs them their life.

It's a wonderful continuation, it could easily have gotten lost in between the amazing episodes one and three, but it delivers on every count. It is so faithful to the book, and Hickson truly brings Miss Marple to life.

Miss Marple may be an elderly spinster, but she isn't so small minded as you may expect, she sees and hears everything, but she's quite open minded too.

There are two amazing scenes I have to comment on, firstly that scene where Miss Murgatroyd and Miss Hinchcliffe discuss the party, secondly that moment in The Café where Miss Marple and Bunny chat about shepherds and shepherdesses, both are terrific and significant scenes.

The acting is just incredible, every single person involved is tremendous, if I had to highlight an individual performance here, it would have to be Renée Asherson, she's pretty much perfect, it's what makes the second murder to hard to stomach.

I have to comment on Joyce Carey's scene, I've watched so many 60's dramas lately, she's appeared in lots of them, what a wonderful actress, even late on in her career she's just lovely, Belle Goedler's scene simply wouldn't appear in a modern adaptation, it's what sets this apart.

Samantha Bond is very good as Julia, she adds a little bit of humour to proceedings, an actress that's happily still going strong, I'm currently watching her in a series called, The Inheritance, she's excellent, as is Kevin Whately, who also appears.

10/10.
