Yet another slick Scandinavian series about mostly women cops with troubled private lives. Meanwhile, a bunch of about 30 gun-toting big bikers in leather can't take down a Croatian wine bar run by two skinny blokes, the old Dad, and their womenfolk. Especially as the Croatians all seem to have a big lunch together every couple of days, when they're not a-courtin'. They're also unable to spot a blindingly obvious nark (who's the lead cop's son, but she has no idea either).
And what's really annoying is that every couple of scenes the cops have to explain what's happening to their boss so we, the viewers, can be reminded of the plot. Much of the rest of the action is taken up with texting.
Episode 5, THREE TIMES I heard the line, 'What's going on?'. Soap writers do that when they are about to give you exposition. It's like, "In case you've just joined us". You have to be reminded of what's supposed to be at stake. Really: there is nothing at stake in this 'thriller'. Cops and robbers, you know how that ends.
By episode five it should have dawned on you that 'Before We Die' is spinning its Volvo wheels. It had me fooled for a while.

I tried to watch this (I do not mind subtitles, they were de rigueur in the old art films when I was coming up). Yet, it seemed as if the story lines could not "get off the ground" but was sort of "stuck in neutral." as if there was something "more important" coming up in a bit. But, it never happened! Then, I figured out what was wrong; I simply could NOT believe that anything that happened in Sweden . . . . . mattered (in the grand scheme of things).
In the real world, problems of espionage, international terror, or intrigue happen in London, DC, New York or even Paris. Nothing EVER happens in Sweden (much less Norway) so the concept is just silly. I know the Swede's like to make movies (what nation doesn't) and these stories may be interesting (and even intriguing) when viewed by the local population, but I just cannot buy the notion that Stockholm is the center of the world, or a world center. Sorry, but it is just too parochial, or provincial, or limited.
This effort is almost in the realm of SciFi because of its narrow concept. It seems as if the notion of "foreign films" still is a snobby cliché, but this effort just does not add up to much. Drama does not equal good; overly dramatic does not equal better.

I don't quite see what the purpose of this series was. To participate in a Blood and Violence contest? They may win a spot in the top three. Or even top two, if they're lucky. Top spot? Nah. Probably not that lucky.
