Really funny

I love this kind of humor! It's so spot on with mom groups and cliques.

Outstandingly good

Just finished series 1, which is absolutely brilliant. Horgan and Linehan at their very best and delivered by a wonderful cast. Anna Maxwell Martin is a shining star and I wish Sharon Horgan had written herself into the script somewhere. As good as Catastrophe and that's saying something.

Looking forward to seeing the next two series.

comedy of awkwardness

Its painful to watch at times but season two is definitely a step up towards more conventional humor.

Series 1 & 2 are terrific but Series 3 is woeful

I'm not sure what happened in Series 3, different writers, lack of story lines etc but just not up to the standards of earlier series. Maybe they should have left it at S2 and gone out in a good way. Julia is super annoying and the Garry story line was silly. My 8 rating is for the first 2 series but S3 I would rate 3. Pity as I was looking forward to it.

Funny, would be better with Nicolas Cage

This is a funny show- I myself don't have kids, but I imagine this is a genuine portrayal of what it's like.

I'd like to see Nicolas Cage introduced as one of the stay-at-home dads, bumbling his way from school run to school run, getting into all kinds of jams as the day goes on. There should also be an episode where he charity fights Jean Claude Van Damme to raise funds for the school disco.

Last season runs out of steam

The first 2 seasons were really good. However, the last season seems to indicate that the writers are running out of ideas. All seemed to be just thrown together and is not as funny as earlier episodes. Hope it continues and the writing improves. It is a very funny series but runs the risk of becoming silly and not well thought out!

A Breath of Freshly Ironed School Uniforms

Let me start by saying this: I don't often watch modern TV. Most of it feels like someone took a decent plot, stretched it out on a medieval rack, and called it prestige television. So imagine my surprise when Motherland came along like a PTA meeting with actual personality - short, sharp, chaotic, and genuinely enjoyable.

A family friend (who usually recommends things like 10-part documentaries on artisanal bread) mentioned Motherland, and I caught a snippet while scrolling - and that was it. I was in. Full binge mode activated. And I never binge. Not unless chocolate is involved.

This show works on so many levels it should come with a warning: "May cause you to laugh while simultaneously re-evaluating every social interaction you've had at the school gates." It's funny because it's painfully - and brilliantly - true. That's the magic of good comedy-drama: it hits you with a laugh, then a bit of existential dread.

Now let's talk casting. Spot on. Every single actor feels born to play their role, and that's no small feat. Casting is often an overlooked element (until it goes wrong - looking at you, awkward Netflix teen dramas), but here it's what elevates Motherland into pure gold.

And the ending? Perfect. A rare case of a show knowing when to leave the party - just before the wine runs out and someone brings out the karaoke machine. It ended right when it should have, no drawn-out subplots, no awkward 'just one more season' energy. Respect.

What's more surprising? I keep thinking about it. You know when a show sticks in your head weeks after, like that one embarrassing thing you said in 2006? Yeah, Motherland is that kind of memorable. In fact, I'm seriously considering a rewatch - not something I usually say about anything that doesn't involve cake.

Diane Morgan's one liners!

I stumbled across this by accident on Netflix, good job I did as its a fantastic watch. I binge watched the whole 3 series.

The comedy one liners are hilarious, I'd have to express my love for Diane Morgan - her overall performance is outstanding! At times she's the one that gives this show the comedy factor. The series's storyline, everyday struggles of being a mother etc are brilliantly expressed, I also like to note Tanya Moodie's performance was phenomenal, her and Diane's scenes were my favourite.

The only shame that each season only has a handful of episodes. Overall it's a must watch!
