Out of place
The episode was not bad it was just out of place. The story of her meeting a sister had a point but the timing on which episode it followed was why it didn't fit.
Tolerate-able
I'll mirror many of the other reviews, the weak link in the series. It does offer a perspective of what could have been for El. However, it's not anywhere near the quality of the previous episodes. So it will fill some space and maybe offer something to think about...but I'm ready to get back to the real story.
Low-key the weakest episode!
After seeing the bad reviews i was debating whether to watch this episode or not, but ultimately i decided to do it in case something important happened! Now that i have seen it i will skip it next time and pretend it doesn't exist!
The problem with this episode is that it doesn't feel like an episode of Stranger Things, but instead some "New Mutants" rip-off! The episode obviously exists to develop Elevens character, but it just doesn't reach a highet level! Her hairstyle changes more than her character! The side characters are.... not great and i just couldn't take them seriously!
Ultimately this episode fails because it is put after the exciting cliffhanger of the previous episode! Its like those annoying character centered episodes of The Walking Dead! Pacekillers.

Think "Fly" from Breaking Bad
Pretty much the only episode of this show I'd consider filler. In an otherwise great TV show, they for some reason wanted to spend an entire episode following one character. You can honestly skip it and not much is different.
Nope.
First of all - I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
After the cliff hanger of chapter 6 I would have been sorely disappointed that the story line did not resume until chapter 8 but, thankfully, all the episodes are streamed so the wait was not too long.
What were they thinking? Was this a half-arsed attempt at a spin-off pilot? This whole episode was pointless. If they wanted to develop the Eleven/Jane Ives/Jane Hopper character, there surely must be better ways of doing so rather than taking her on an out-of-town mission of self-discovery whilst encountering 2 dimensional, poorly developed characters unnecessary to the plot.
If for whatever reason your internet went down between chapters 6 & 8 - let me reassure you - you didn't miss a thing.

- TriviaThe music used when Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) and her gang are preparing to leave to find Ray (Pruitt Taylor Vince) is from the deleted Bank Heist scene from Escape from New York (1981), composed by John Carpenter.
- GoofsJust after arriving in Chicago, Eleven looks the wrong way when crossing the street. This is because Millie Bobby Brown is British and they drive on the opposite side of the street.
