Based purely on the summary, I expected an intriguing twist on the typical Cinderella formula. And at its bare bones, the plot does deliver. Cinderella needing to rescue her prince both inverts the damsel-in-distress implications and solves the problem of allowing the characters to build a believable relationship. Using a character who is almost universally good as the villain is also an interesting inversion of the usual formula.
Unfortunately, the great premise is pretty much the only strength this film has. Poor writing, flat characters, over-the-top voice acting, noticeable animation errors, and clunky handling of pretty much every important plot point completely wastes the movie's potential. Young kids would probably enjoy it, but for anyone else, it has very little to offer.

I have to say, for the current animation films industry, a lot of IP have been over-used. This film is the same and it uses the IP of Cinderella, but the reason why it interests me is that it presents a completely different Cinderella. it gives some much-needed chemistry to Cinderella's and the prince's romantic charm, and I must say, it works for me. There is one line still impressed in my mind, I am going to save him. Yeah! why not ! old IP, but new plot !!!!! I like it !
The story starts out just like Disney's Cinderella : there is a royal ball, Cinderella is forbidden to go by the evil step mother, she is helped by her mice friends, gets magical help and goes to the ball. But the prince turns out to be an imposter, while the real prince is under a curse, that Cinderella decides to help to break.
The idea is nice, but the execution is not great. The pace of the action scenes feels off, the scenes go from slow to big action to slow again without warning, which is the biggest problem for me. I wasn't surprised by the plot twists but I suppose kids will be. And finally the ending is really abrupt, it left me with a feeling that the movie was incomplete. Not because the situation the characters are in is dissatisfying but the narration is really bad and makes it seem worse than it is.
Overall, the story had potential but the final product is not as good as it could have been.

Took my 3 year old daughter to see this movie, and it was a huge dissapointment.
1. Very dark, the "color" and mood of the movie is dark, usually kid movies have bright, happy colors or mood. It also contains a lot of spells and "witchiness", more than you would usually see. My daughter was scared (1st time ever, and we have seen over 10 movies with her), we had to leave before it ended
2. This movie was made for 3D view, we saw it 2D, and it looked like a video you would get in the story of a videogame. Terrible.
3. The story is different, which it does not mean is bad, but it wasn't as interesting as the Cinderella story everyone knows.
4. Is not funny, is not happy and it doesn't make you feel good.
Do not waste your money.

- TriviaIn the end credit list, there is a typing mistake. They wrongly typed "Animators" as "Aniamtors". Though it appears to be fixed as of 8/23/22.
- GoofsOn the DVD art cover of Cinderella and the Secret Prince, it shows 3 white horses pulling the carriage. But in the actual film, it shows 2 white horses pulling the carriage as it was decided the prince who was cursed as a mouse couldn't change form.
