Not a bad format from the BBC to fill their gameshow quota.
Rick Edwards is as wooden a host as you could ever find though.

Love the format of this show. No matter how clever a contestant they're always potentially one fiendish question away from being eliminated. Rick Edwards does a great job of balancing questions with humour. Plenty of potential twists and a decent guaranteed cash prize every show unlike Pointless where the prize is dependent on how previous contestants have performed. The group who were on the week 6-10 August were particularly entertaining. Gutted when Reg didn't make the grid area. The idea of players being on all week means you can root for players and get to know them a little as the days go on. Great show - long may it reign!
As a Pointless fan I can't believe the BBC is airing this dull drivel in the 5:15 slot. Poor format, dreary host. Should be called "Unwatchable".
First of all, I have seen comments trashing the host (Rick Edwards) and the format of the show (confusing).
Rick Edwards does a fantastic job hosting the show. No one seems to know how he understands/remembers the details of the answers/questions. He has no visible earpiece. He also attempts to have comradery with the contestants. Some complained about his wearing T-shirts ... no idea why. His European cut suits are probably a bonus for him.
The format of the show is not complicated, it is a multi-level achievement format. It makes perfect sense. In addition. They may include an impossible answer, which give the show its name. So the question must be listened to very carefully. I haven't seen this in other quiz shows, it adds more excitement. The contestants will stay on the show for two weeks, which is excellent, we get to "know" them, and they have multiple chances of going to the final.
Obviously the questions target the UK, as they should. As an American, they are quite difficult to answer, but I am learning more about the UK. I am embarrassed not to know the answers to US questions.
I have no idea how the host (Rick Edwards) can understand the myriad of different accents used in the UK. His English is, of course, British accented as it should be, and very articulate. Some of the contestants mumble terribly.
I do consider the default prize pool as very small (maybe 1000 pounds). While some quiz shows will have a default of $10k, the contestants must go through at least two different phrases to get to the final round of 10,000 pounds.
The show is entertaining and educational.

The show is slow and uninteresting, viewers feel no need to engage with the questions, the host is bland and uncharismatic, and the music is unthematic, annoying, all over the place and frankly terrible.
Now that it's clear that pointless on they out, I really hope this isn't the show the beeb decide to replace it with. 5:15 should be reserved for only the best gameshows, like The Weakest Link, or Pointless in its early years.
Frankly, getting any enjoyment from this show is impossible
