Animation was great, but that's about it.

The story was slightly weak, but I didn't expect much more, they brought back the godfather stereotype for the millionth time, and the music was not as good as the first. The animation on the other side, was absolutely stunning. I didn't really have high expectations, since I never really like the first film, and I guess my expectations where passed, but not by much.

It is a plan story and blend in(sing) too much songs

An underwhelming plot with an obvious ending, paired with too many artificially added songs.

Although the songs are all familiar and popular, they cannot hide the huge flaws in the plot. A movie without a good story is like a meteor shower without popularity. Although the night is beautiful enough, it still lacks the most exciting part.

Compared to Song's more philosophical/human nature discussion, a description that focuses only on success and failure is clearly a disadvantage People who love these songs, after the hormones in the brain dissipate, look back on this movie again, and there should be very few places to smile 6 points can't be more.

Intricate In Its Own Right

It was a genuinely good film! Originally, I and many others didn't have high hopes for a sequel to an Illumination movie, but it turned out to be good. Also, this is more of a critique than a review/recommendation.

Positives:

  • The film was extremely memorable in its own right.

  • While slightly mediocre, the plot points work well with the main story.

  • It always managed to keep me on my toes with its ever-changing plot.

  • Great and balanced animation and cinematography.

Negatives:

  • The characters were not explored further than the original.

  • The new and old characters don't get equivalent screen time.

  • Old has any weight to them, and the ones that do seem artificial - as in the weight that is bestowed upon them is only there for the development of the plot.

  • The ending felt a bit undeserving and a bit too epic for my tastes.

  • It felt too short and a bit rushed through the plot development and character design.

  • As mentioned before, some plot points are just plain boring.

  • Most new characters are built only through the help of others, justifying them weightless and superfluous alone.

  • TOO MANY SONGS!

Few good bits but the music selection was meh

The story was interesting and definitely a upgrade from the first and it had some really funny parts but the music other then a couple gems the music selection compared to the first movie was so meh. Instead of having a large selection of everything it's just pop music from the last 7 years with a couple classics dropped in they definitely catered to kids on tiktok, from the music to even some of the dancing.

I will say Mrs Crawly is a G and probably is the best part of the movie.

The First Movie Repeated Another Time

In Sing 2, I praised the songs, performances, production value, pleasant colors and atmosphere, soundtrack, some comic elements, and the theme (although this was also one of the things that I criticized, and I'll explain why).

But what I criticized is the 112 minutes runtime and the repeated theme, which, like the first movie, was about success, ambition, and not giving up even if the person falls several times. It would have been better if the movie took another theme and dealt with it.

When it comes to the score, I give the second installment of Sing 6 out of 10.

Good Background Music

This is the kind of movie you can play in the background while you do your housecleaning. Your kids will love it, you can dance to the catchy tunes, and it brightens your mood. Is there substance to the movie? Not really, but what do you expect from a kids' movie.

It's ok, not as funny as I'd hoped

I can't put my finger on it but had same issue with the first, the music is well done, some of the songs aren't my taste but it's enjoyable.

The characters for me lack depth, I struggle to remember their names, which I don't get with Disney or thinks like shrek or even minions. They aren't especially well thought out, or likeable, a few are but on the whole it's not as well put together as I hoped.

Film was slow in places, there wasn't enough humour and some of the stuff just missed the mark, the cinema was packed and barely a chuckle, I'd say bar the chameleon woman, there wasn't much laughs.

The story it's self was more modern, bordering on the awful woke generation but it was alright.

There's just something missing that stops this being a classic , it's not on par with things like ice age, Madagascar, I'd put it more with open season as animal cartoons go.

Fine for what it is

It could've used some better song selection, but other than that this is a solid but not amazing kids/family movie. The plot is nothing special and it follows the plot of the first a little too closely at times. The run time is also slightly too long, but overall it's not a bad film.

Cute family film

Tho not as good as the first it's a great family film. The problem is it's too over the top and busy and flashy at times. It's fun tho and it's a great family film.

Serviceable Sequel

A serviceable sequel that will more than do the job for the kids; adults will probably feel it lacks some of the innocent charm of the first film and that it could easily lose about 20 minutes. The music will keep adults engaged, even if it gets frustrating that you never hear a song in its entirety. It's also decently chucklesome in places.

Pretty Good

I liked this movie a lot more than the first. Fun songs and a better plot. The first one was very annoying to me, and that all seems to be gone with this one.

Better than expected

Big lover of the first movie, so as most people I was a bit unsure of how the sequel would play out. To my surprise I loved it, just as great as the first movie. Great for the whole family and bug kids too!

a glittery, feel-good musical encore full of heart

A lively, charming follow-up that expands the world of Sing with bigger stakes, flashier musical numbers, and surprisingly emotional beats.

.

📖 Plot Summary (Spoiler-Free) Now running the successful New Moon Theater, Buster Moon dreams of taking his troupe to the next level. His goal? A massive sci-fi musical at the glamorous Crystal Tower Theater in Redshore City. There's just one problem: ruthless media mogul Jimmy Crystal won't give them a shot unless they can secure a superstar. The reclusive rock legend Clay Calloway.

As Buster, Rosita, Ash, Johnny, Meena, and Gunter prepare for their biggest show ever, they face stage fright, self-doubt, creative chaos, and the challenge of bringing Clay back into the spotlight after years of grief and isolation. It's a story about ambition, healing, friendship, and finding your voice when the world is watching.

.

✅ What Worked

1. Huge, energetic musical set pieces

2. Clay Calloway (Bono) steals the emotional core

3. Strong arc for Johnny, Meena, and Ash

4. Fantastic voice cast with great comedic timing

5. Vibrant animation with Vegas-style flair

6. Themes of grief, courage, and artistic passion

7. A finale that feels like an arena concert

.

❌ What Didn't Work

1. Plot is predictable and very formula-driven

2. Too many characters = some arcs feel rushed

3. Jimmy Crystal is a one-note villain

4. Emotional beats don't hit quite as hard as the first film

5. Certain songs feel more like playlist fillers than story-driven choices

.

💬 Favorite Quotes / Moments (Spoiler-Free)

1. Johnny's dance-fight training sequence with Klaus

2. "Out of this world!": Gunter's over-the-top show ideas

3. Ash's emotional duet with Clay

4. Meena's reluctant romantic storyline (and hilarious awkwardness)

5. The space-opera finale: massive, wild, and dazzling

6. Rosita overcoming her fear in the final show

7. Clay's big entrance moment

.

✨ Fun Facts

1. Bono's first-ever animated film appearance

2. Halsey improvised several of Porsha's dramatic moments

3. Redshore City is inspired by Las Vegas + Tokyo + Dubai

4. Over 40 hit songs were licensed: one of Illumination's largest sound budgets

5. Clay Calloway's story draws inspiration from real musicians who stepped away from fame after tragedy

.

👀 If You Liked This, You Might Also Enjoy

1. Sing (2016)

2. Trolls

3. Zootopia

4. Happy Feet

5. The Greatest Showman

6. Vivo

7. Moana (for the musical-emotional blend)

.

🎯 Final Thoughts Sing 2 is bigger, louder, and flashier. A joyful musical extravaganza packed with heart, humor, and gorgeous visuals. While the story sticks to familiar beats, the emotional payoff and concert-level finale make it a genuinely uplifting ride.

⭐ 6.4/10. A glittery, feel-good musical encore full of heart.

Sing 2

Synopsis: In the glamorous town of Redshore, Buster Moon and his friends face their fears, make new friends, and push themselves to the limit on a journey to convince reclusive star Clay Calloway to take the stage again.

Review: "Sing 2" brings back the enchanting musical universe of the first film, but unfortunately, it fails to maintain the same energy and originality of its predecessor. The sequel strives to capture the essence of family entertainment, focusing on themes of perseverance and friendship, but suffers from a predictable narrative and some character development choices that feel rushed and disjointed.

The characters, who already won hearts in the first film, feel a bit one-dimensional in this sequel. While some of the new additions to the cast try to bring freshness to the plot, the expected emotional depth is lost amid a script that prioritizes musical numbers over the development of more complex plots. This leaves the viewer feeling as though some of the characters' personal stories are sidelined in favor of musical hits, resulting in a plot that, while entertaining in parts, becomes repetitive.

The animation, as is characteristic of Illumination, is vibrant and visually appealing, and the musical performances are undoubtedly the film's highlights. The soundtrack is a veritable festival of hits, but it often feels more like a collection of pop songs than a cohesive construction within the story. This focus on music ends up leaving some of the film's central messages somewhat superficial.

While "Sing 2" seeks to convey a positive message about pursuing dreams, the characters' journeys, for the most part, don't evolve in a way that truly resonates with the audience. It's a film that offers moments of lightness and fun, perfect for animation fans, but it could have explored the interpersonal relationships and challenges its characters face more deeply.

Ultimately, "Sing 2" is a sequel that may appeal to younger audiences, but for those hoping for an evolution of the first film, it feels underwhelming. A sequel that, despite its good intentions and visual appeal, fails to capture the magic that made the original so special.

Not Pixar, but Bono

The musical performances in the third act were fantastic and the brightly colored animation was stunning. Sing 2 had a good amount of emotional pull and the story was fairly interesting, especially when Bono was involved. While it is not up to the "Pixar standard" of animated storytelling, I was still entertained. A worthy follow-up to the first installment.

Fun, but pretty formulaic....

Even though this is a kids movie I went in with a level of excitement for Sing 2. My daughter & I enjoyed Sing and were looking forward to where the story would go. Though there were some cute moments & cool performances the story beats are pretty similar to what you've already seen in the first one. They've definitely doubled down on what worked and had no interest exploring beyond that. Fun, but pretty formulaic sums up this movie perfectly.

Plot 8s too explored and need a different twist.

Tons of great songs and epic performances; way better than the first. Only problem is plot has been too much explored, this story and flavor is too common in movies and need a different twist to make it more interesting and unique.

Disappointed.

I wish I saved my money. The sequel did not measure up to the first movie at all. There were a few cute, funny parts but overall Sing 2 was a snooze fest.

Treading old ground, but fun

First off, hate me all you like for what I'm about to say. This film portrays oversexualised female characters, so if that's something that concerns you, don't watch the film. Most adults won't even notice because we're so used to it in our media. But it's there. A second of a scantily dressed rabbit in a sensual pose. A snippet of a sexy song sung by a female character with bedroom eyes. Buster Moon inappropriately touching Meena and coercing her to kiss someone she doesn't want to. If you can't see it, you're part of the problem.

Apart from that, I enjoyed the film. It's more of what we loved about the first film, but in a different way so that it doesn't feel like a rehashed version. For example, the first film had a hilarious audition scene and so does this, but done differently. The themes are the same, the basic plot is the same, but you don't really notice because it seems bright and fresh.

And of course, there's a cracking soundtrack.
