The Disenchantment pilot episode, "A Princess, an Elf, and a Demon Walk Into a Bar," introduces viewers to Dreamland's fantasy world with a blend of dark humor, quirky animation, and characters who bring something different to the medieval setting. The episode focuses on Princess Bean, a hard-drinking, rebellious royal; Elfo, an optimistic elf eager to see the world; and Luci, a mischievous demon who becomes Bean's personal "shoulder devil."
The episode sets the tone for the series with sharp, sometimes absurd humor that feels familiar from creator Matt Groening's Futurama and The Simpsons. Bean is a refreshingly unconventional princess, and her chemistry with Elfo and Luci gives a new twist to the classic misfit trio. The animation style and medieval backdrop bring a unique look to the show, with Groening's iconic character designs translating well to this fantasy world.
That said, the episode falls a bit short in delivering a memorable story. The humor is hit-or-miss, with some gags feeling forced or repetitive, and the plot drags in places. There's a lot of world-building happening, but it sometimes overshadows the main storyline, making it feel like a slow start rather than a compelling introduction. It hints at a larger adventure but lacks the punch or excitement that would make it instantly engaging.
Overall, "A Princess, an Elf, and a Demon Walk Into a Bar" has promise and charm, but it doesn't quite live up to expectations right out of the gate. A 6 out of 10 seems fair, as it sets up potential for the series while leaving room for improvement in pace and humor. Fans of Groening's work might enjoy it for the characters and quirky setup, but the show's true potential is still waiting to shine through.

This ain't no Futurama, that's for sure. Let's hope that the future episodes are better.
Groening and his buddies have been past their prime since 2002, and this show seems to be the final nail in their coffin. I don't fault Groening for getting the show on the air and getting himself, and some old friends, one last paycheck but this show is absolutely unwatchable. It is everything that the simpsons would have pilloried in 1993: formulaic, bad jokes, predictable, pretentious, etc.
People will see Groening's name and give it a watch based on that alone and for this I do not blame Netflix for putting it on the air. Having said that I can think of many better ways to spend thirty minutes like staring directly at the sun or lying down in the middle of the 405 during rush hour.

"Disenchantment" is not the greatest comedy show, the start is a bit rough. The best thing is the voice acting and animation. The pacing is not the best. With weird pauses without any dialogue or music. Mark Mothersbaugh the composer delivers a unique theme. But otherwise than that, the score feels a bit empty. The Humor is mostly lying in the dialogue and imagery. But it just doesn't work very well. I haven't watched "The Simpsons" so it's probably just me. Overall it's fairly enjoyable and entertaining. You can watch it and have a good time.
Disenchantment S1 E1
A Princess, an Elf, and a Demon Walk Into a Bar
Well you know it's going to be odd when the opening credits feature several smiling heads mounted on pikes.
Princess Bean doesn't seem to be a very good princess.
"I had the dogs lick me clean. Twice".
That one elf looks just like Lisa Simpson. We think that they might be related.
Stab yourself in the head much?
That guy hides an elf punching bag under his kilt! Cool.
The food at The Kraken Barrel is not what it's cracked up to be.
Why is it? Horses are always neigh sayers?
