First of all , I love Benedict Cumberbach
This man can do alot of incredible things and every work for him is masterpiece ...
This series is talking about toxic father son relationship and how it can affect on people years and years after sexual abuse or violence or any abnormal stuff
The photography was amazing the shots were incredibly fantastic
May be the first 3 episodes had a slow rhythm but eventually it's a good experience and I'll always be happy to watch Benedict Cumberbach acting

Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant as Patrick Melrose. I must confess that in the middle of the first episode I considered not watching anymore as it is a very distressing issue however I am glad I did. This series touches on many issues and speaking out against what is wrong and defending children at all costs is paramount.

Patrick Melrose was a Showtime miniseries based on a fictional chapter played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Patrick was the son an of an aristocratic family that was ignored and abused as a child. His father, played by Hugo Weaving, deeply traumatized the poor kid in their South of France summer house which caused him to use alcohol and substance drugs during his 20's to take away to take away his pain. As I watched this, it was painful to see how he was raised and ignored by his drunk mother played by Jennifer Jason Leigh. It's a great sad show that also stars Blythe Danner who did not care for children nor having any in her house. This was nominated for best miniseries and best outstanding lead actor in a limited series because it was that good. I would highly recommend this five episode series.
There were some strong performances - Patrick, his parents and his father's cohort were all played well. It is also a stylish series with good cinematography.
It was sometimes hard to grasp the time-line, especially in the later episodes - even though a date was put up now and then.
it kept me interested throughout, although I enjoyed the New York scenes the most.

A violent chasing can drive you crazy! I mean how your past can affect your whole life keeping you trapped, holding you back, and totally destroying your future.
Considering the novel-based storyline it was marvelous how the character of Patrick Melrose were built with a great care of the minute details (though it would be better if it wasn't a five-episode mini series).
The brilliant acting performed by the professional Benedict Cumberbatch as he evolves through out the course of the series.
On the other hand, we had enjoyable well-shot scenes.
I'd really recommend this drama for all those who are interested in the troubled psychological development of the people suffering from childhood issues.
It was a distressing experience and I have no regret that I've watched it, cause "nobody should do that to anybody else"!

Usually I try to avoid the-rich-cry-too stories depicting their attempts to deal with vanity in a self-destructive manner, but as B. Cumberbatch is one of my favourite actors + there are other talented names involved, I decided to give it a try. As for performances, I was not disappointed, Cumberbatch, JJ Leigh and S. Maltz in particular do a great job, but the quality of different episodes is disjunct and following flashbacks was difficult at times. And, as mentioned, I am not keen on watching addicts with money, their pretentiousness and internal hiding tend to annoy me.
Still a strong series: performances 9 points, script 7 points = 8.

I haven't read the book so I cannot talk about how the adaption is, but on its own, it's a complete masterpiece on all the levels: writing, acting, cinematography, photography and editing). The pacing and the back and forth between the present and the past make this series something you only can admire.
The maker of Patrick Melrose surely managed to successfully put together a grotesque bunch of loathing and self-loathing characters. Merely watching the live gallery of failure, frustration, weakness, hatred and despair swirling in a vicious circle makes you dizzy. The cruelty that caused and the indolence that allowed the agony of the helpless boy make you want to reach into the screen and snap some necks.
All in all, it's a powerful drama that stirs emotions which are sometimes so strong that you want to escape, to close your eyes or shut your ears but you can't.
However, the show being such a masterwork, there are certain "petty" details that bother me. Sebastian Maltz is doing a great job for his young age, but I wonder at what point of Patrick Melrose's life his eyes will go from brown to "cumberbatch blue" and his ears repositioned.

Patrick Melrose is a respected series with great actors. It holds a valuable concept that makes it worth the time. The Series' slight humor has also made it enjoyable. Benedict Cumberbatch also shines in this series. The series starts very strongly, but due to the weak narration of the story, the quality of each episode decreases. But the series represents a proper ending.
I was expecting a fantastic series, but in the end, the series turned out just well. I wish that they used the story and actors' potential better.

Love the show. Even though it's over the edge, Cumberbatch is brilliant. I really like young Patrick but the color of his eyes don't match older Patrick. Maybe that shouldn't bother me...but it does.

All though the threads of challenging subjects that are so believable in there portrayal, this is not a comforting series. It is however meticulously executed by some exceptional actors.

Cumberbatch deserved the Emmy nod he got, if not the award (but I didn't see others, so won't complain). This is a very good portrayal of an addict. The only problem was, as another reviewer states, it's very hard to sympathize with the characters, upper-class snobs mostly. I expect the experiences of withdrawal and addiction are the same no matter the class, so it's good to see what it's like. Why people choose to do this is beyond me.
I suppose he's dealing with abuse from his childhood, but that hardly excuses it, since there are other healthier ways to confront it.
