Not so Bad, Enjoyable Anthology

Honestly not bad, for it's budget restraints this 8 horror-Short cereal could of been so much worse but its more then decent. Sure, the first story doesn't really do much. Is it cleverly written? Sure, but it doesn't do much other then be cleverly written and have good set design. So if your completely taken out by that one short then that's understandable, but despite a slow start it gets better.

I love Story 2. The set designs are immaculate and very interesting. A man remembering his wife and having a dance with her is definitely touching. And I'm guessing she's past away.

I also really enjoyed Story 3 for adding some Supernatural elements to the movie/Anthology. The plot twist is definitely creepy.

Another story which I enjoyed was the one with Maisy, and her trying to please the owner. And having to clean up despite the weird occurrences.

Sure the Anthology isn't amazing, but it's an easy watch. Is it scary? Not particularly no, has it been done before and been done before? Yes is the awnser. But it's different, and if given the chance. Some may enjoy it more. It's very Entertaining and clever in the way it's presented. Each story has a segment. And some stories will be better then others. With unexpected plot-twists. And some stories feel like there in a conological order. The end of one of the stories was the start of the 5th story.

The scariest is probably the fifth story, because it's got the creepy man. And has a great plot-twist. It's an entertaining episode, with being a short story. I like the simplicity of it. Honestly, it's more then acceptable. Now time for my verdict.

Verdict,

6/10 Solid.

Not scary but entertaining enough

If you're a fan of Inside Number 9 you will appreciate the format and the dark humour. However it doesn't quite measure up to the tv series in terms of cleverness, or scary. But an entertaining watch nonetheless.

Rather boring and uneven

This compendium might only prove that using eight directors, eight writers, and four editors produces a result that doesn't hold together very well. Some of the segments are quite atmospheric but none are scary or even chilling in the least. This is the kind of "horror" movies that you can't show your kids because they will leave the room rolling their eyes and making fun of you. Only one segment was really scary and that was due to the 1960s wallpaper.

Some Original Ideas but Low Quality Execution

I liked the idea of watching the various segments tied together by the haunted hotel but the quality was pretty low and unfortunately none were particularly scary. Despite it being the setting for the whole feature, the hotel itself doesn't have a very strong presence and as a result, each segment feels unrelated to the others. The acting was very hit and miss as were the concepts for each segment, although there was definitely some welcome originality.

Boring

This movie had an excellent premise for a thriller. I could barely pay attention for more than ten minutes. It's not scary, funny or intriguing. Being an anthology of eight stories each was supposed to have an independent story as well as a common thread throughout. Neither of which existed or needed a better explanation. I do not understand the high reviews other than they were all placed right after release and inaccurate which makes me think they were friends and family.

Make no misteke, there is absolutely no comedy in this!

I don't know who added the "comedy" tag to this movie. I was hoping for some light hearted, low budget British quirkiness but greeted with non-sensical and might I say, badly executed, amateurish and no-fun-at-all screenplay. The stories either make no sense or so obvious that you can see what's coming from miles away. Don't pay attention to the 9/10 ratings. They are either trolls or they are rating some other movie!

This was really bad and boring.

The opening didn't instill much confidence, and the whole anthology ended up feeling like a waste of time. The first story didn't really go anywhere or feel even a little bit like a horror story.

All the stories were extremely predictable, none of them had any interesting twists.

All the stories (except 2) were pretty boring and felt low quality.

Camera work was all pretty flat and the set design wasn't very good for most of them.

The second to last story "Ghost of a Chance" was pretty funny. The execution wasn't the best, but it was cute and unique; If they were all around that level it would have been alright. Unfortunately, it's the best one, but it might be just unique enough to skip towards the end and watch it.

The last one I really wanted to like, but it just felt a little too haphazard and it didn't have the effect they wanted.

Not scary, but very good

Don't watch this if you're looking for scares. If you want to be entertained for an hour or so, give it a go. The acting is good as are the storylines. Nice short little segments.

WASTE OF AN HOUR AND A HALF

This is one of the worst films i have ever seen, it made no sense and was so irrelevant. The fact that i have wasted an hour and a half on this show makes me acc want to commit. Dont put yourself through watching this. It doesnt get better it just gets worse.

Ghostly good fun

An enjoyable series of linked stories set in a real Ipswich hotel. The stories vary from the atmospheric, to more spooky with some gentle British humour in between.

Boring

As boring and predictable as it gets. Every segment was lackluster and easy to tell what would happen. The concept was great. The execution, not so much.

This is not a comedy film! Not laughable, and full of super annoying overuse scene! Bored to freaking death!

Certainly very different.

I thoroughly enjoyed this very odd film, it's very unusual, almost unique, definitely not your typical horror movie, some great segments though, particularly the segment featuring Tim and his wife, and the one which featured Maisy as The Hotel Maid.

It's very atmospheric, very nicely made, and definitely well acted, High Fraser in particular was fantastic.

Was it scary? Definitely not, so if you're after thrills and scares, this may not be for you, however if you're looking for suspense and mystery, you may well enjoy this curio.

Very watchable, 8/10.

Different

I enjoyed this. It's always intriguing to see what can be achieved on a low budget and this delivers some excellent and quirky stuff. Well done to all involved. Hope it does well.

If you grew up loving Hammer House of Horror/Tales of the Unexpected you'll love it!

Typically British supernatural film vibe in the humour and the touches of pathos throughout.

Not scary per se but thoroughly entertaining throughout.

Fantastic acting too.

If you don't like it, you're probably American! 😉😊

Spooky fun

Great atmosphere, terrific setting and spooky fun. I love the bite-size segments that covered a range of different horror styles. Entertaining from beginning to end. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Makes for great Halloween viewing

I enjoyed this collection of short films. They aren't overly dark or cynical. The stories aren't necessarily scary but they do range from being fun, to poignant to creepy. "The Writer" and "40 Years" were my favorites. Overall, the acting is consistent with the overall tone and "spirit" of the films. What I found impressive is that each film took place during a different time period but within the same location; the lighting, production design and costumes all tied the different time periods together nicely while grounding them all within the hotel. I definitely recommend this to viewers who enjoy a good-natured spooky film.

Very well made

The film spans over approximately 150 years from 1863 to 2019. Each story is well told and looks authentic to the time period its set.

Great fun!

Thoroughly enjoyed this movie in general, some segments more than others, my favourites being Watching, Room 27B & The Devil Inside.

Good variety of stories, made more so by the fact they were set in different eras.

Spooky, Gothy Fun!

Many indies tend toward horror anthologies that harken back to the old "Tales from the Dark Side" and "Night Gallery" TV shows, and sadly, most don't measure up. "The Haunted Hotel", however does. It's a lot of fun, and there is much to enjoy in the film's several short stories. The editing and cinemagraphy have a definite aesthetic, as does the acting, and in spite of each episode having a different director, writer and crew, there is a genuine cohesiveness in the overall storytelling. While The Haunted Hotel lacks the extreme violence, gore and jump scares of modern horror films (and sometimes expected fto on audiences), the entire affair enjoys a slow burn as it moves from episode to episode, with the hotel itself being the unifier of the overall narrative. Recommended!

Charming and original!

Lovely movie- really enjoyed watching this. More of a ghost story than a horror movie but excellent portrayal of the different decades - brilliantly joint together - even had its sad and definitely some funny moments! Most certainly would recommend this.

Spooky Suffolk stories!

Eight generations of horror in one spooky haunted hotel. From the origins of Dickens early work, the burlesque phantoms of young lovers, the tortured artist to the ghosts of the human mind. Was his whole life just an imagined nightmare of ever diminishing characters?

The haunted Hotel brings all of this into one very scary feature length movie. It embraces a variety of phantasmic themes and employs just as many cinematic techniques. It's almost a pity the hotel is portrayed in the present as a derelict building with just it's ghostly memories and nostalgia keeping it alive. Jack Nicholson arriving as winter caretaker wouldn't be out of place!

The stories are loosely linked together by the characterisation as well as the geographic location! The Haunted Hotel is an engaging and stylish movie, which I would highly recommend, there are slow scares that gradually creep up on you and quick frights that will make you jump. It'll certainly make you think twice about that city break in a boutique hotel, and it's history!

Gently scary

I don't like scary films - but not his had a charm about it. I guessed the ' twists' on them all quite early I.e who was dead. I liked all the stories apart from the penultimate story - that was silly. Pleasant old style ghost stories.
