Plotted on 70's Naxalite era of Calcutta. Casting was too heavy to handle this pitty thriller. Sabyasachi is fabulous as always in a Naxalite role. But story telling could be more mature.Created so much of suspense in the 1st half which have enlarged viewer's expectations. Could be a very good ending as well.
The first part of the movie is full of intellectual beings (read antels). Too many characters are there, many of them just to stretch the movie to a little over 2 hrs! The real story doesn't even begin before 1.5 hrs. At that the story should have finished in 30 mins tops.
It's very slow paced. The story never really builds up. They tried to show a lot of things but touched only the surface with incoherent incidents strewn over. The writer Asimav Bose is a rip-off of 'Amitav Ghosh' and his book 'The Calcutta Chromosome' is christened as 'The Calcutta Chemical'
The only thing I liked about this movie was the interiors of the writer's house!
Give it a miss if you are sick of slow paced antel movies.
All that was a way of life for the Calcutta of the turbulent 70's, reincarnated in the modern day life with the "spoofiness" Anik Dutta is so characterized by, is all mixed in this delicious mix of mystery thriller. I guess, Anik gets carried away with his sense of pun to let you know and question the riddle. Extremely enjoyable for all us who grew up with in Calcutta to savor the various levels of meaning and flavor on a rain drenched day - specially with some banter fry.
Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo (2017)
Thriller
Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo (2017) is about a Professor of Oxford, who during his annual sojourn to home town receives a copy of the bengali classic from an anonymous source and wonders "whodunit, howdunit and most importantly whydonit"?
A beautifully twisted plot with wonderful concept and story telling that slowly peels the onion and makes way for the bulb. Meghnadbodh Kabyo isn't exactly what the Film is about however it's similar when we look at the characters of the film and that of the book. It's a story of betrayal. The film was good overall, however the only point of dissatisfaction is that the policemen were portrayed as extremely hopeless and on the other hand a woman(artistic in nature) and a film director turned out to be the actual detectives of this plot. And even though that seems amusing, it didn't quite make sense to me while I was watching the film. Overall a nice plot, good use of Bengali literature, great acting - a film worth watching!
