Linklater // On Cinema & Time (2017)
*** (out of 4)
This video essay was originally done for Sight & Sound but it can be found on The Criterion Collection's release of THE BEFORE TRILOGY. Basically we learn about time and dreaming and how they relate to various Richard Linklater pictures. We get clips from his films as well as dozens of other movies including the work of Truffaut, De Sica, Ozu, Welles, Godard, Lang, Hitchcock and Bergman among others. I'm not going to say this was ground-breaking or any sort of masterpiece but I enjoyed it for what it was. I thought it had a very calming and peaceful flow to it and it was certainly nice seeing the various film clips pieced together to try and tell the story and power of film.

A bit curious, a bit obscure. Its basically a montages of film clips, some from the Before movies, some from classic films, mixed with animation, (whose source I do not know.) The background narration is all connected to the theme of Time, and its passing. Unfortunately by the end of it you do not feel that it holds all that much interest, or adds understanding to Linklaters art. All I can say postivrly is that its short.
