The Faith Community

The producers were grossly out of touch with the manner in which cults really operate. The acting is very poor. From the very beginning the viewer realizes this retreat is run by a some deranged characters. There is no sense of being "drawn in." Good films in this genre are presented in a manner that is almost believable, such as the Blair Witch. In the Blair Witch the viewer is slowly moved into the horror allowing the terror to be far more experiential. In this film we know in the first ten minutes that some horror is awaiting. The movie uses far too much "preachy" material in the first quarter of the film. Many will grow quickly bored and may not hang around for the action. Personally, as a United Methodist I was uncomfortable with the sect using the UM logo of the cross and flame on the t-shirts. Many, if not most United Methodist are not fundamentalists. This personal element made everything from the outset to be unbelievable.

Is it unfair of me to give this movie a good rating solely because of how much I liked The Messenger? Probably.

Am I going to do it anyways? You betcha.

This movie is terrible. Between the horrible store, the crappy camera angles, and the the inability to frame and focus a scene I was praying for death but unfortunately it never came. If you are into feet and dirt (because most of the movie the camera is facing the ground) then this is the movie for you.

Do not believe any of the above two star ratings. As an ex Christian, I've never gone to a bible retreat with so few people. The camera work was ok, hence two stars. The acting was horrible, even when they weren't speaking. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

The movie could have been good. This is a good premise for a found footage horror. Yes it's not original but it could've been creepy. But nothing really happens. Like, nothing. Where you think it's gonna hit the fan it doesn't and then it tanks and I found myself repeatedly going back to my phone because I was bored. Which isn't good
