Better than anticipated, and better than the reviews suggest, this is an odd couple / buddy cop movie, a little old-fashioned, but with enjoyable performances from Omar Sy and Luis Guzmán. It has the same plot and structure as a Jackie Chan film, or indeed Beverly Hills Cop. It's a little slow to get going, and flabby in parts, but Sy has the charm and presence to carry the leading role. The easy switching between French, Spanish, and English is well done, but may partially explain why the film is so poorly received (unless you're comfortable in those three languages you need to read a lot of subtitles). Miami, Paris, and Colombia (standing in for a fictional African country) are colourful and easy on the eye. Not the worst comedy action flick on Netflix.
Don't know where to begin.... No chemistry between actors, poor dialogues, pointless scenes, poor plot. It looks like every scene has been shot in one take. The jokes have been written bij 8 year old's. This should be the end of Omar Sy's career, but Lupin saved his ass, It think. What about the story? There is no story, all the characters are one dimensial. This movie is a shame to cinema. I have seen the whole movie. Pure torture.
The second this movie started I felt like it was trying too hard to be like Rush Hour. The plot is kinda similar but it's not even coming close to Jackie Chan's Movie. Omar is funny and there are a few good lines in this movie but overall it's just missing something. No big laughter just a few chuckles and the action scenes well I don't know what to say.. they were french.
Belleville Cop is the French version of the classic buddy cop genre. Omar Sy brings charm and energy to his role as Baaba, giving the character a lively presence. However, the film overall is let down by a clichéd script and predictable plot.
The action scenes aren't particularly impressive, and the humor often falls flat. All the promotions and buddy cop vibes had raised my expectations, but the film didn't deliver. Omar Sy's charisma carries it somewhat, yet there were plenty of moments where I found myself bored.
In short: A bit entertaining for buddy cop fans, but you need to keep your expectations low.
Rating: 4/10.
