Monster High is facing a series of bad luck incidents, since "Friday the 13th" and "October 31st" strangely coincided this year. Deuce Gorgon encounters a black cat, and then has his own powers turned against him by a mirror. He is left petrified. Lagoona Blue informs her friends that the bad luck will last until 3 PM, meaning that they will have to endure 6 hours of misfortune. Cleo De Nile informs her friends that she brought a protective amulet with her. It is supposed to protect its wearer and the wearer's companions. Frankie asks about the location of the amulet, and Cleo says that Ghoulia Yelps is carrying it for her. At that moment, Cleo and her friends realize that Ghoulia is not standing beside them. The girls can see Ghoulia walking alone in the distance, and try to catch up with her. Rain and storm start inside the school, and the girls are struck by lightning. As they observe Ghoulia, they see the zombie girl tampering with the school's clock. Ghoulia moves the clock's hands forward to 3 PM, ending the bad luck wave prematurely. The girls starts conversing on whether the amulet fits with Cleo's outfit.

The track team practices at the gym, and the fire elemental Heath Burns tries to show off for the girls. The girls think that he is conceited and criticize his arrogance. Clawdeen Wolf claims that she is a better runner than Heath. Heath claims that he can defeat her with minimal effort in a race, because girls are too delicate for track. He ignores Clawdeen''s warning that he chose the wrong day to challenge her. Heath sets the rules for their race, and decides that the loser will be condemned to clean the Pit of Horror. Heath brags about his supposedly easy victory to Clawd Wolf (Clawdeen's older brother), only to hear from Clawd that he chose the wrong day for such a contest. Heath is puzzled by the ominous response, but proceeds with the race. Draculaura and Lagoona Blue then open the curtains and reveal that there is a full moon in the sky. As a werewolf, Clawdeen is empowered by the moonlight. She howls at the moon, and then runs at super speed. She easily outclasses Heath. Sometime later, Heath is trying to clean the Pit of Horror while intimidated by a gigantic monster. Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Lagoona laugh as they observe his torment.

As an assignment in Mr. Hackington's class, pairs of students are tasked with taking care of eggs for a week. It is a test of their parenting skills. The sea monsters Lagoona Blue and Gillington "Gil" Webber are told not to partner with each other, as Hackington explains that there is a negative stereotype that all sea monsters are bad parents. Lagoona and Gil are offended, and decide to prove that the stereotype is false. Throughout the week, the young couple makes an extra effort to keep their egg safe and warm. At the end of the week, Hackington locates a crack at the couple's egg and gleefully fails them. But then the teacher realizes that the egg is about to hatch. His laboratory assistant informs Hackington that he chose fresh gargoyle eggs for this assignment. A baby gargoyle emerges from the egg, and proceeds to attack Hackington. Lagoona and Gil proudly note that their egg was the only one which hatched, indicating that they are better parents than their classmates.

The nerdy zombie girl Ghoulia Yelps has been invited to spend her lunch time with her love interest Sloman "Slo Mo" Mortavitch and his pals. Ghoulia is feeling shy, but Frankie Stein encourages her to accept the invitation. Frankie offers to escort Ghoulia in order to help her. At the table, Ghoulia and Slo Mo are too nervous to communicate with each other. Heath Burns comments on how shy they are, but then starts hitting on Frankie. His fire powers are acting up, and Frankie feels threatened by his flames. She takes a bathroom break to discuss changing strategies with Ghoulia. Later, Frankie pays a compliment to Heath and causes him to activate his fire powers directly under a fire sprinkler. As Heath gets drenched, Frankie performs her humorous impression of a vampire hunting for prey. Heath is further charmed by her humor, while the zombie couple are amused by her antics. The zombies relax and embrace for the first time.

Ghoulia Yelps and Clawdeen Wolf are reading a book about vampires and their powers. Clawdeen is excited to learn that vampires are shape-shifters and can turn into bats, though the book says that it is an ability which vampires gain as they age. The vampire girl Draculaura is asked whether she has that ability, and she is too embarrassed to admit that she never learned it. Draculaura heads into the belfry to try to master the skill, and she accidentally disturbs the rest of a real bat. While Draculaura falls asleep, the bat encounters Clawdeen and Frankie Stein. They think that the bat is a transformed Draculaura, and start hanging out with it. They feed the bat, they give it a make-over, and they allow it to take a multiple-choice test in Draculaura's place. When the real Draculaura returns, her friends are enthusiastic and she learns that she got the only A in class for the test. She is clearly confused, and she fails to notice that the bat is flying above her head.
