It's very rare for a television series to end well. Especially a series that spans 8 years. Very few shows have ever accomplished this monumental task. Breaking Bad is about the only other show that ends as spectacularly as Homeland.
Shows such as LOST and Dexter build incredible characters and plot lines but fail miserably in trying to wrap things up and leave the audience with a sense of frustration and disappointment.
Homeland ends in such a way that actually makes you proud to have been a fan of the series. It's climax is perfect. The writers of this series should be given the highest honors for what they did. It's sensational. Well done! Thank you!

The end was bittersweet. I thank the cast and crew for a great series. The ending was fitting for the character of Carrie and the best finale I could've hoped for. I'm glad they didn't go with a rosy Disney fairy tale ending and stayed in the spirit of this world they've built.
I will miss this show but I suppose it was time to say good bye.

It may not have been the best season - season 2 certainly comes on top - but the makers absolutely delivered on the conclusion of my favorite non-science-fiction show by far. From the inept VP-turned-President of the US to the war hawk badgering him into a nuclear war, to the advisors at a loss to bring him to his senses, to the Taliban, Afghan and Pakistani characters bound up in this global quagmire, to the Russians taking advantage of the situation, everyone gave an indelible and incredible performance.
Time and again the series gracefully takes its cue from the real events of the war on terror in the last two decades. Long-drawn-out invasions and wars based on lies and touted by war hawks. Countries in the region having their own agendas at loggerheads with America's. Russian scheming, manipulation and interfering. Everyone has got an ulterior motive.
Costa Ronin's character Russian agent Yevgeny Gomorov was a befitting love-hate interest for Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison, whose decades-long friendship with the faithful Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) comes to a head in the most unexpected and unbelievable manner possible. I most definitely didn't see any of this coming.
Hats off to creators Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon.

Brilliant finale.
Near the top as one of the best series finales of all time. I take pride in trying to guess where things are going, plot twists, etc. but I never saw this coming. Not only suspenseful, topical, and entertaining, but it connects on an emotional level I never expected. Kudos to the writers and other talent. A special shout out to Mandy Patinkin and Claire Danes. Seriously. Wow.
Also agree with other reviewers, it definitely left open the door for either additional season, or even better, a spin-off.
Like the title says of this review, I hate when a series that I'm addicted to says goodbye. But goodbye my good friend. Hope to see you again.
