Right, well I didn't even know about "Little Monsters" prior to getting a chance to sit down and watch it. And being a huge fan of all things zombie, of course I had to sit down and watch this movie.
Turns out that "Little Monsters" from writer and director Abe Forsythe was actually quite good. It was a nice surprise and was actually a nice addition to the zombie genre, especially because Abe Forsythe managed to incorporate the comedy so well into the storyline, without it tipping over and becoming a downright comedy.
The storyline was good, nicely paced and actually had some good things to it. Sure, it was a zombie story, so you know what you are getting. But the movie does offer odd bits of things that you don't usually see in zombie movies, such as the kid's TV show host, children being a major part of the storyline, people singing during a zombie outbreak, and so on.
As for the zombie make-up, well, I must admit that they did a great job. The zombies looked good, and it wasn't, thankfully, not just people painted gray on the face and forgetting about the neck and hands. No, "Little Monsters" actually had decent zombie make-up and prosthetics, and even had enough gore in it to make it have that special zombiesque feeling to it. It was good.
And the movie had a great cast. Lupita Nyong'o really carried this movie quite well, and she was nicely cast for the role of Miss Caroline. Alexander England, playing cousin Dave, was also quite good. However, I must say that Josh Gad, playing Teddy McGiggle, was actually hilarious in the movie, and his character was just a blast.
If you enjoy zombie movies, and want something that deviates from the usual end-of-the-world-struggling-to-survive formula, then "Little Monsters" is a refreshing addition to the zombie genre.
I am rating "Little Monsters" seven out of ten stars.

Biased opinion as a parent, but the kids in this horror spoof made it amazing. Makes sense as the film is dedicated to Abe Forsythe's son Spike, whose first day of kindergarten inspired parts of the story. Some original zombie gags towards the end were a nice touch. Definitely reccomend to 'Shaun of the Dead' fans that now have kids. My wife had tears during the credits, happy or sad? You'll just have to find out.

Little monsters was a fun zombie movie. It reminded me a lot of cooties but instead of the action contained in a classroom. Its instead in far which is right next to a government facility. Dave is a bit of a slacker, a washed up muscian and one day when taking his nephew to school he has heart eyes for teacher caroline. Nyong and england are both great here and I enjoyed their performances very much. Dave ends up going with the class to a field trip and sing shake it off on the way. They are unaware though that zombies have got of a facility and they are coming for them. The horror was somewhat wholesome in this and the way the characters were able to still make jokes in such a situation. Josh gad is also here as a funny childrens tv character filming at the farm called Teddy mchgiggle though he is a little selfish and has a potty mouth. Little monsters is overal a film that does not take itself to seriously and has fun with its soerce and I enjoyed this very much.

In Australia, slacker loser Dave (Alexander England) takes his nephew Felix to school and completely falls for the teacher Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong'o). He joins the school trip to a mini-golf farm hosted by children's entertainer Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad). A nearby American Army research facility becomes overrun by zombies.
This is a mildly funny comedy horror. The horror is limited by the very young children. The comedy works to some extend. The funniest line comes from a kid saying the zombies look fake. There is good opportunity for comedy. Josh Gad is trying very hard. I'm not sure if Lupita fits the comedy mould. The lead could be funnier. Simon Pegg does it funnier in Shaun of the Dead. He doesn't have a good sidekick. The kid is too young to do the job. Overall, it has some good laughs but there could still be more.

I guess a cynic might read into the title that the children are meant with that - and maybe there is a pun in there. Now what I do like personally and is being utilized perfectly in the script and story, is the fact that the undead are walking slow. Now you know too, if you hadn't before.
This movie got a lot of praise and I reckon most of it has to do with Lupita. It seems impossible not to be smitten one way or another (or any which way) by her. But as mesmerizing as she is and as funny and quite rude (in a good sense for me, a lot of swearing, so don't be easily offended or else, no fun for you) the script and the movie are ... it falls back into certain cliches and is rather predictable.
If you don't mind all that and quite the display of blood and other stuff on your screen, the journey to become a better person via surviving a Zombie attack can be more than entertaining

Wasn't really expecting too much when starting this film. Just bored really and seen Lupita Nyong'o was in it so I figured I'd give it a go. As absurd as the plot is, I actually really enjoyed watching the actors play these roles out all the way through until the end.

Whilst this has many children in the cast this is clearly for adults.
The quirky comedic story of two adults trying to keep a kindergarten class safe on a school trip when a zombie outbreak occurs at a nearby army base
The teacher, played by Lupita Nyong'o steals the show, with the uncle of one of the children becoming an easily likeable character as the movie progresses.
Throw into the mix the horrible children's entertainer to stop the story becoming too cutesy with sweet singalongs and the film is an easy distraction for an evening.
Who wouldn't have wanted Miss Caroline as their teacher
No need to overthink this .. relax and enjoy

As a movie I'd give this 6/10. It's cliché, uses the tropes well, and downright funny. For what it was aiming to be it's a perfect 10 and I can't fault a movie for that. It's fun, easy to watch, and heartfelt at the right moments. It's not a movie you turn to to be challenged, it's a movie you turn to for feel good entertainment.
Lupita Nyong'o is incredible towing the line between sweet, innocent teacher and total badass that doesn't want to show the students that side of her. Josh Gad delivers as always and brings a fair amount of dark humor to the story. I don't know who the other lead was, he's there and does a good job, but his role could be played by a lot of people and get the same result.
If I had any complaints, it's that the opening bit before we meet Nyongo's character drags a bit, but after that it really picks up.

This movie has been on my list for a while. I finally watched it and wasn't disappointed. I actually really enjoyed it! The characters were great and Ms. Caroline is absolutely stunning. Not your average zombie movie but an overall feel good movie with zombies. But there are some gory zombie moments!

Love this movie, its tense yet funny. Well played by all the characters. Entertaining movie, dont know why hte low score on imdb though.
A very funny spin on the zombie movie genre by having the main characters distract a group of kindergarteners from realizing there even is a Zombie invasion going on at all. It creates a really funny contrast where you have these cute wholesome kids screwing around and suddenly all this carnage is going on the in the distant background. The action and slapstick is very well done and the performances are hilarious (Lupita Nyong'o is giving it her all and Josh Gad is clearly having fun playing out-of-character as a real jerk who hates kids). My main issue is with the main protagonist. He gets better for the second half of the movie, but he's so dang unlikable in the first third, it's borderline unwatchable with him onscreen. Luckily, he gets a lot better for the rest of the runtime, and this change was all clearly intentional. I just think they went too far with it early on and it makes that section of the movie hard to rewatch. But luckily the other two thirds are so great that it easily makes up for it (that kid running around like Darth Vader was the best part). It's a surprisingly wholesome rated-R zombie flick, and a hidden gem amongst the stacked year of great films from 2019.

Little Monsters is a film that you will warm to as it goes on. At the start I was really quite dubious, not convinced at all by the character of David in particular, but once we hit the second and third acts its hard not to get on board with Little Monsters.
Luipta Nyong'o is fantastic as expected. She really is the draw for this film, and if she wasn't on the cast list this film probably wouldn't be on my radar in all honesty, but I'm glad that it was. She was outstanding throughout and delivered a wide and varied performance. Josh Gad also put in a hilarious performance as a children's tv presenter who isn't quite as jovial as he first seems.
What I will say about Little Monsters is that some of the humour felt off the mark, a bit more like the sort of humour you'd hear from a Hangover movie than a movie from 2019. It still did a good job of being funny in parts, using the young cast to good potential, however in parts it did feel awfully clunky. I return to my earlier point that the character of David just did not work for me, and any humour centred around him largely fell flat.
There wasn't loads of zombie action, so if you're looking for a very gory film with zombies getting mowed down left and right, look again. This is much more of a Shaun of the Dead type film, the characters at the heart of the story, and the zombies taking a back seat. I think this is quite a hard balance to strike in cinema and Little Monsters does it well, giving us enough characters development and enough zombie action to remain engaged.
You'll have fun with this movie I'm sure. It won't blow you away, and is perhaps a little unrefined in places, but for a horror/comedy B movie I'd say it definitely punches above its weight and is well worth a watch.

The movie probably suffered low scores due to its small coverage in horror-action content, but it is definitely a solid entry in the over saturated zombie genre.
The movie tone is life-affirming in a sarcastic yet heart warming way, thanks to the lead actors' performance, making them strong, kind and still believable; especially during emotional crisis and physical dangers, the grown ups tried to watch their mouths and candy wrap all the mayhem around the kindergarten kids.
Some may find the plot and character development predictable, but the movie stands out as sincere and fun instead of being heavy handedly moralistic.
For a more terrifying and serious tone, I'd recommend Train to Busan, World War Z, 28 Days Later and Girl with all the gifts.

REVIEW - LITTLE MONSTERS
Zombies and comedy do they mix, Simon Pegg a while ago made Saun Of The Dead which for some reason unknown to me because a cult comedy classic but if you did like the above mentioned film then give this Australian film a try because Little Monsters is very funny in places.
Follow the exploits of a school teacher, a washed up musician and a TV celebrity as they battle an outbreak of Zombies to keep a class of school children safe.
Australian films are definitely coming along with some great original ideas and this is one such little monster of a film.
Rating 7 out of 10

I had watched the trailer long back and had forgotten about it, glad I stumbled upon it again. The movie is hilarious! It's silly, dark, heartwarming, and has great comedic timing. Obviously, the movie lacks logic, but it's a zombie apocalypse at Pleasant Valley, so that's okay. The kids are adorable and how they follow Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong'o) is adorable and quite well done, especially Felix (Diesel La Torraca). Though never did I imagine I'd enjoy listening to so many Taylor Swift songs in a movie. And I might add, the beginning of the movie is a bit of a downer, where they're trying to set the premises for the protagonist Dave (Alexander England) who wasn't really there in the trailer. But bear through that, since the rest of the movie is great and makes room for character development.

My wife and I had good fun watching Little Monsters. Alexander England had the funniest character in this movie and he did a great job. The first part of the movie was the funniest part to me, after that the horror took over and it was also well done with good realistic zombies (if that's what they're supposed to be like of course). Good make-up made it look real. But it's definitely more a comedy than a horror movie. In my opinion there was just a bit too much singing but it's bearable. The acting was good, a good choice to cast Lupita Nyong'o and Alexander England to play the main characters. The kids were also good which is never obvious at such a young age. Little Monsters is an entertaining funny zombie movie, something different than we usually get.

It's actually a Hulu original, but it showed up on Hoopla a little while ago so I could actually watch it. The main dad character starts out SUPER unlikeable, but he gets better as the film goes on. I'm a believer that a protagonist does not have to be likeable, relatable or a good role model. They must be understandable and interesting, and this movie checked all those boxes for me. Josh Gad is also in this movie. He's really annoying. He plays kind of a Pee Wee Herman-style kids entertainer, but he's really a big jerk. I feel like I've seen that before in other movies, Death to Smoochy comes to mind. The story is also a pretty basic zombie horror-comedy setup and execution, not that different from Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland. Nothing too original going on. However, the best part of this movie that makes it worth watching is Lupita Nyong'o as the kindergarten teacher and her class. They bring the laughs and they bring the heart! She is really excellent in the role, and she's a damn good singer too! The child acting I thought was quite good as well! As someone who is interested in becoming a teacher myself, I really got into this movie and enjoyed it a lot! I'd say it is worth a watch if you like horror-comedies or like working with kids. It's fun.
Little Monsters: Australian Horror Comedy. What's more frightening? Looking after a class of five year old children or dealing with a Zombie Outbreak? Well here Dave and Audrey encounter both challenges at once. Dave is a waster, can't commit, busks for a living, is thrown out by his girlfriend. Staying with his sister he brings his nephew Felix to school, smitten by schoolteacher Audrey he offers to fill in as a second "responsible adult" on an outing to a petting farm. Some dark experiments are under way on a nearby US military base, two MPs are discussing how everything in Australia is trying to kill you when they are bitten by escaped Zombies, from later comments by US soldiers it's obvious that this isn't the first such outbreak. The children arrive at the farm and enjoy playing with the animals and are delighted and entertained by a children's television personality who is filming his show there. Meanwhile a swarm of Zombies head towards the farm, foreign tourists think it's part of the entertainment and end up being bitten/devoured. This is a very dark film despite the comedy elements, people are torn limb from limb and eaten alive if they are not turned. It's literally a life or death situation for Dave and Audrey as they attempt to keep the children safe from the Zombies. They also convince the children that its all a game, I found this eerily reminiscent of Life Is Beautiful. Things get a but too slapstick at times and the constant foul mouthiness of some characters is irritating. There are other conspiracies afoot and plot twists. An entertaining Zombie Comedy but not a classic. Written and directed by Abe Forsythe. 7/10.
Tuned in for the lovely and talented Lupita Nyong'o and stayed for a heartfelt comedy. Zombies are really just the backdrop. The focus is the kids - the "little monsters" who are actually far too behaved - and their protectors played by Lupita and Alexander England. At first England's character is a bit crass, and later a bit frustrating, but stick with it, because overall he plays a key and positive role.
This is not so much a laugh-out-loud comedy as it is an amusing tale. Although the zombies provide great comedic potential, it's really the interaction between Lupita, England and Josh Gad, along with the children, that provides the laughs. And it's the meaningful connections between the characters, their warmth, their growth and their development, that makes this a sweet, charming sojourn. Plus it made me a fan of Taylor Swift, which deserves a higher rating for that feat alone.

Its actually Good, though it takes a bit of time what with all the character development and sometimes cringe dialogue. Acting was Ok, and its better than that over hyped, pretentious trash that was the Dead Don't Die.
At least your time won't be wasted. There's gore, hilarious scenes and heart warming scenes that is overall an Ok film.

Little Monsters
An enjoyable Horror/Comedy about a loser who has to take responsibility and grow up quickly to fight a zombie apocalypse (sound familar?)
Shaun Of The Dead this isn't, but there are strong performances from the core cast and the kids involved in this film
Dave is a loser. His Girlfriend has had enough of him, and he is living on his sister's sofa, and setting an awful example for his nephew Felix.
When he gets handed the responsibility of taking Felix to school, Dave meets Miss Caroline and ends up volunteering as a chaperone for a school trip. Of course, this is all whilst a zombie escape takes place at a local miltary facility (what did you expect?!), and Miss Caroline, Dave and the kids all end up trapped in the gift shop whilst the undead try to break in
Simple premise, great execution. Both leads carry the film well, and the children give strong performances too, with Diesel La Torraca as Felix providing some genuinely sweet and funny moments. Also, Lupita Nyong'o as Miss Caroline provides a calm, collected and understated performance in a film that has some crazy over the top characters. Speaking of which....
The stand out performer for me has to be Josh Gad, playing a well known childen's entertainer, Teddy McGiggle. His worst nightmare comes true when he is trapped in with his biggest fans. A beligerent, alcoholic, kid-hating egotist, McGiggle is played by Gad with great relish, and provides a lot of the laugh out loud moments of the film
To be honest i think the weakest link for me was the character of Dave, played by Alexander England. I think the whining, selfish no-hoper he starts out as was so efective it stuck with me too much throughout the duration, even when the character arc had reached its end point. Im not saying its a bad performance, but i just didnt find the character likeable
As a zombie comedy, this does everything it says on the tin. Its fun, dark and if you do like the horror comedy genre, this ticks all the boxes

This started on Hulu automatically so I wasn't planning on watching an Australian zombie comedy. I saw Josh Gad and lupita Nyong'o were in it and stuck around. I'm glad I did. It really is sweet at the end and there are some laugh out loud moments. "Sir, that's a ukulele, sir."
I really wish they had PG-13ed it so more people and kids could enjoy it; but perhaps there is a cleaner version.
