        Speechless

As the headline suggests, I'm speechless and not in a good way. I don't even know where to began, this is the first piece of cinema that I can sincerely say I was unable to find one positive element out of its entirety. My cinema professor used to say that there was only one movie during his entire profession that he wasn't able to watch to completion. I requested that he give this movie a try and when I asked for his thoughts during our next class meeting, he ignored me (wouldn't even look in my direction) and at the end of class he said that he would be adding this movie to his list.

The title is peculiar considering they adopted many washed up and cliche horror themes and story elements in the film and yet decided to incorporate only one of those underlying themes/elements with the 'blood ritual' title. This movie could have simply been called "Blood Ritual" and yet, the title includes "Ouija"; one could easily infer that the word "Ouija" was included in the title in attempts to establish this low budget indie film with the already established and profitable Ouija film series released by Universal. In other words, this entire film felt like one big gimmick designed to draw in cash from the non-expecting and blissfully unaware movie goer who thinks that they are about to watch an installment of the established Ouija film series.

It's also noteworthy that the only 9/10 review left on this movie has a 2018 post date and the movie was released in mid-2020; so either, someone has a time machine and travelled into the future just to watch this abomination of a film or someone with a connection to the film left a high rating review (during development/pre-production stage) while incorporating some criticism in their writing in an attempt to fool potential watchers of said abominable film.

I'm a live and let live type of person and I don't really believe in telling other people how they should live their lives, but life is precious and because of that I'm begging you.....please don't waste your precious time watching this movie like I did. Learn from my mistakes. Godspeed.

No wonder they couldn't make a show...

Ouija Blood Ritual is just another of the 100 found footage knockoffs made each year.

The plot of a crew investigating urban legends but finds a real one is hardly original but is a reliable one. The problem here is that the 'show' makes up less than ten minutes of the mercifully short runtime. The rest consists of the three talking about the show and each other with the fat nerd cameraman waving the camera around for no reason.

Seriously, it gets extremely annoying that this supposed camera and sound man can't hold the camera still for 2.3 seconds and just records entire car ride conversations while we watch the road for zero reason.

The only positive I can say is the entity itself was done pretty well and did look creepy in it's limited screen time.

The problem with trash like this is the complete lack of care or thought. Blair Witch Project worked because they spent time to develop a lore, set things up and then saw what their characters did. Here things just happen because they need to get a feature run time. Absolutely horrible garbage.

        Ouija in name only.

A clear case of a sub-par Found Footage movie adopting an established franchise's name in the hope of selling copies. As a FF film, there is nothing new here and hits the same, tired cliches you've seen countless times and, while I applaud the creation of a new urban legend, this is so weak as to be laughable. Save yourself the pain and skip this tired, plodding cash-in.

        Forgettable Plaigerized Nonsense

Lets get one thing clear this is not a Blumhouse Ouija franchise production. It is a stand alone film mimicking the Blumhouse title/idea Ouija. Just so it attracts an audience. Why the film is branded as Ouija is beyond my logic, it had many factors not just about a Ouija board. but there are a million examples of this throughout film history, especially when it comes to horror, where producers/writers/directors copy popular titles such as Ouija.

This film is done in a found footage style. Three people set out to debunk ghost rituals such as Bloody Mary, Ouija boards, and so forth. The acting is mediocre, the story is very weak, and to put it bluntly, it is a forgettable film. Reason being, it has nothing to offer. It copies core elements from other popular films, such as Sinister, Lights Out, and last but not least The Blair Witch Project. We've all been here before.

Most of this film consists of bad writing, what I mean by that is, one of the scenes after the main female protagonist was asked a question after doing a ritual where she was locked in a freezer, her partner goes on to say "What did it feel like"? She responded "dark". Of course it's dark the door is closed!

Sorry folks saying that it was "dark" is not a feeling, it's an observation of the environment your in. This is one of the reasons this film is awful, it tends to copy as I said key scenes from other films in a plagiarized sort of way. Some scenes are highly irritating as far as camera work goes, what I mean is shaky cam syndrome, It was like shaky cam on crack in parts of the film. At least it has good cover art.

(Note to directors/producers shaky cam does not make a scene more enticing, it actually annoys your viewer, please stop trying to be Spielberg in Saving Private Ryan, because that's where that effect originated from.)

In closing, I must say watch anything else. But if you want to waste your time go for it. I do not recommend this film.

Doesn't live up to it's potential

A group of three friends Rob, Kayla, and Dustin try to debunk an urban legend.

The movie is done in "found footage" style. It starts out pretty good, but goes downhill fast! The best members of the cast; Kenzie Phillips, Al and Gabriel Rios-Hannon, and Melissa Zahs are shown in a short flashback section, where Dustin, Kayla, and Rob watch a short video about the legend that they decide to debunk.

The short "flashback" video is the highlight of Ouija Blood Ritual as far as I'm concerned. Such a shame that such a solid cast got so little screen time.

Even at 76 minutes things seem to move pretty slow. I was gonna buy a DVD copy of this, I am a huge fan of Melissa Zahs, so that alone made me interested in this film. She's great, as always, but I'm glad that I was able to see this one online for free. I usually enjoy Dustin Mills films and short films, but this one just couldn't hold my attention.
