This film is done in a found footage style. Three people set out to debunk ghost rituals such as Bloody Mary, Ouija boards, and so forth. The acting is mediocre, the story is very weak, and to put it bluntly, it is a forgettable film. Reason being, it has nothing to offer. It copies core elements from other popular films, such as Sinister, Lights Out, and last but not least The Blair Witch Project. We've all been here before.
Most of this film consists of bad writing, what I mean by that is, one of the scenes after the main female protagonist was asked a question after doing a ritual where she was locked in a freezer, her partner goes on to say "What did it feel like"? She responded "dark". Of course it's dark the door is closed!
Sorry folks saying that it was "dark" is not a feeling, it's an observation of the environment your in. This is one of the reasons this film is awful, it tends to copy as I said key scenes from other films in a plagiarized sort of way. Some scenes are highly irritating as far as camera work goes, what I mean is shaky cam syndrome, It was like shaky cam on crack in parts of the film. At least it has good cover art.
(Note to directors/producers shaky cam does not make a scene more enticing, it actually annoys your viewer, please stop trying to be Spielberg in Saving Private Ryan, because that's where that effect originated from.)
In closing, I must say watch anything else. But if you want to waste your time go for it. I do not recommend this film.
I feel empty
My life dosen't have meaning anymore
I'm a shell of a human being
This movie killed all of my brain cells
I didn't know that movies so incompetently made could exist.
My whole view of the world changed
All is black
I am in pain
The movie is done in "found footage" style. It starts out pretty good, but goes downhill fast! The best members of the cast; Kenzie Phillips, Al and Gabriel Rios-Hannon, and Melissa Zahs are shown in a short flashback section, where Dustin, Kayla, and Rob watch a short video about the legend that they decide to debunk.
The short "flashback" video is the highlight of Ouija Blood Ritual as far as I'm concerned. Such a shame that such a solid cast got so little screen time.
Even at 76 minutes things seem to move pretty slow. I was gonna buy a DVD copy of this, I am a huge fan of Melissa Zahs, so that alone made me interested in this film. She's great, as always, but I'm glad that I was able to see this one online for free. I usually enjoy Dustin Mills films and short films, but this one just couldn't hold my attention.
The plot of a crew investigating urban legends but finds a real one is hardly original but is a reliable one. The problem here is that the 'show' makes up less than ten minutes of the mercifully short runtime. The rest consists of the three talking about the show and each other with the fat nerd cameraman waving the camera around for no reason.
Seriously, it gets extremely annoying that this supposed camera and sound man can't hold the camera still for 2.3 seconds and just records entire car ride conversations while we watch the road for zero reason.
The only positive I can say is the entity itself was done pretty well and did look creepy in it's limited screen time.
The problem with trash like this is the complete lack of care or thought. Blair Witch Project worked because they spent time to develop a lore, set things up and then saw what their characters did. Here things just happen because they need to get a feature run time. Absolutely horrible garbage.
