"Pacified" is a visually striking and honest account of the hopes and struggles of an impoverished community in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The film is a powerful and intimate storytelling that seamlessly brings you deep into the humanity of its characters, many which were not actors, but the very people from that community, elevating the truthfulness of the story and nuances of the characters. "Pacified" brought me from tears to smiles and back numerous times. TWO THUMBS UP!

It surprised me to watch a movie that was made on a Brazilian favela and the main character is a woman! Well, a teenage girl, to be more specific. This is a movie that talks about many important issues, human rights and relations.
I saw this at the Tribeca film festival in the Bronx this past weekend. Let's start with the understated, but powerfully moving cast - I understand nearly all were folks from that favela. How the filmmaker was able to draw out the honest, intimate portrayal of their lives is incredible. In doing so, he has managed to completely avoid the typical pitfall of stereotypes that plague most presentations of favela citizens. As a result, we get to see a rare glimpse of a world that few know, understand, or acknowledge. The most important film I've seen in 2021.
An incredible and touching story. From cinematography to writing, I enjoyed every aspect of it. Highly recommend.
Paxton Winter masterfully shows the real life of real people who live in the favelas in Rio. The story telling is heartfelt and Paxton focused in it rather than in the violence, which is the center of movies about favelas in Rio. The film gets even more interesting as we follow the amazing performance of Tati, the teenager who is the main character of the movie. A must see.
