    Don't miss it

I liked this film particularly for its main character Frances being a character releasing a lot of emotions.

I recommend it even though it's not my type of film!

    Fantastic !

This Film directed by Camel Winters is a very beautiful Irish film. First I think if you are interested in Irish society, it is a perfect film for you. The fact that the film is Irish makes it original because there are not many famous films from this country, but this one won the FIPRESCI Discovery Prize and when we see the film we understand why. The film Stars Hazel Doupe, she is a great, young and pretty girl, she has talent and that has to be reconised. The film is about an original and historical subject. Frances is a girl from a traveller group in Ireland. She wants to protect and fight for her peaple, like her idol, Muhamed Ali. But her father is like a barrier in her goals because he wants to break her dreams. Frances is not the girl her father thinks she should be, but she is a heroine, and fights for her rights and her freedom. In this film we follow a strong girl, who has something to claim and to say. That is maybe the simple reason why I like it. Or maybe it is more than that.... ok this film is not the best one, but what is a very good film ? Here Frances makes sense to me because I can identify to her and that is the power of films, when fiction becomes reality.

A magical and incredible film of hope !!

    Do not miss it !

Worth watching, especially as an Irishwoman

I'm Irish. I am a woman. I grew up in Ireland and still live here. My Irishness goes back to Celtic roots. But I'm not part of the Travelling Community. So I have no idea what they would think of this film. And I would really like to know. I saw a lot of truth in the film but only as a person who sees that lifestyle from a distance. I'm curious about what Travellers think of it. I would value that perspective far more than random foreign takes from people who just don't get it.

For me, I loved this film in some respects. I've always had a draw towards nomadic, gypsy living. But I wonder if this film romanticises the Travelling lifestyle as opposed to giving a more honest, starker picture.

I thought most of the actors were very good and recognised quite a few. I love the main character and how gutsy she was. She was very well portrayed.

Some parts of the story were dealt with very well while other aspects felt a little flatter. Aesthetically a nice film. For me, the rambling style of storytelling in the screenplay is reminiscent of life on the road.

As for comments expressing LMAO about a girl wanting to be a boxer in Ireland and idolising Ali, they reflect a blinding ignorance on the part of the viewer. These people clearly never heard about Katie Taylor for one thing.

This film is going to be largely lost on misogynists and people that don't get Irish culture, the tensions that exist between what some call the 'Settled' and the Travelling Communities, and the fighting Female spirit throughout Irish history way back to mythology and pre-Christian and pre-Anglo-Saxon culture here.

For anyone who enjoys a story about a free spirit struggling to break through in an oppressive world, this is definitely worth watching.

    The film

It was a touching movie because the characters have difficult relations between each other. Especially between the father and the daugther , Frances. I find that this represents the opinion and the way ok thinking of certain men. This film is a tragedy because the story begins with the life of Frances as a child and she witness the death of her mother and also because her relationship with her father throughout her adolescence becomes very complicated. It is rather boring because I can't see the point at the end of the film. The acting is powerful . The father thinks hi's daugther can't fight and says it's a man is thing, all through the movie he treats her like an inferior person, and at the end he realizes that she can and that boxing is not just for men and that it was her passion and Mohamed Ali , his idol.

    A nice little film

This film should be a lesson for little girls and boys. A family with a history of tragedy are reunited with the father. At a time when womyn were expected to be quiet, pregnant and in the kitchen, some womyn started to say no. This young lady is finding out who she truly is in beautiful rural Ireland. It is nice to see the strength of some womyn being portrayed in this way. The world I live in, most womyn are willing to knock a man who is out of line on his arse so any talk of being unrealistic is laughable. Only a very little man would have his insecurities rattled by this film.
