If you're a fan of Matt (laowhy86) and Winston (serpentza) on YouTube, you'll absolutely love this series. Conquering Northern China consists of 4 episodes, each around 45-50 minutes long, and follows the duo as they travel through the northern provinces of China on their motorcycles.
Each episode sees them traveling to a new city or region, trying out the food, talking to the locals, or just getting themselves into wild encounters.
For me, this series gave me a refreshing view of China and its people by avoiding all the political drama we see today. You get a sense of what people are really like in China (hint: extremely hospitable and kind) by the way this documentary portrays itself. It never takes itself too seriously--which is great, I love these guys' content just the way it is--and you end up feeling like you were just a part of an epic road trip with a couple of your pals.
I wholeheartedly recommended purchasing/renting this series and supporting these guys, because above all else, they provide genuine and honest views on what life in China is like.

I really enjoyed watching Conquering Southern China, but Conquering Northern China brought it to a whole new level. Winston and C-Milk had a blast filming it, you can see their passion about this project in every second of the documentary. I have seen and learned a lot of things about China, its culture and minorities just by watching their documentation. I am looking forward to their next project!
Honest recommendation: Curious about how China really is? Enjoy the documentation and check it out.

While not a regular documentary that might take an in-depth look at the history of northern china it is a great look at the diverse people and cultural differences of the Chinese people outside the major cities today. With some fantastic scenery most people outside China will never get to see I loved it.
I found the Conquering Northern China series to provide a view of northern China that I haven't seen before. Matt and Winston travel across country on motorcycles and explore various cultures along the way. Everyone they meet along the way seems to enjoy meeting them and, consequently, open up their homes and hearts to Winston and Matt in an engaging and entertaining way. I highly recommend this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this.
The series gives a light-hearted view of the northern parts of China, an area that is not often shown in media. The cinematography is impressive for something that was done on a small budget.
I've been through a number of rural parts of China, albeit not the North, and this looks very authentic to me.
