The Orville is NOT a comedy series...it's a legit spacefaring adventure series with comedic elements. The last song of this show? Are you kidding me?
No. Seth MacFarlane is a genius..."Hey, guys, I got this great idea for a comedy series, c'mon, it'll be fun"
Corporate: "Ok, sure...you're good at comedy."
Corporate: "HEY, what is this?? This seems more like an actual spaceship adventure action thingy series!"
Seth: "Gotcha"
This episode was sooooo good! Please don't miss out on this beautiful show created with love and heart from Seth McFarlane
It's quite astonishing how Seth McFarlane is kind of corrupting every expectation and can be so obvious and predictable yet so surprising.
It's hard to explain.
Predictable: the whole story, it's been done before. Then the whole 'but maybe they'll find common ground and it'll be fine' and yeah... seen it all before. More man vs woman toil, yeah old hat.
BUT... shows are so afraid to do it now. You have to be dark, and cut yourself and political if you do something heartfelt and straightforward then you must be crap. You have to be confusing and dark and that favourite word "edgy".
So Seth says... yeah you've seen this all before. I'm aping Star Trek quite obviously. And you know what... I'm gonna do it anyway.
There's a certain satisfaction of being there on the journey.. knowing where it'll go. And then him giving that beacon of hope. Blatantly, obviously so... but still so good.
I don't know how he does something that's so much a pastiche, yet so fresh because other shows daren't be this "nice" in this day and age.

Great story excellent acting special effects outa site orville back on target
A truly dramatic and heart warming episode. It has a twist that you won't see coming, and it will leave you with a smile...and possibly a tear. By far, my favorite episode so far.
