The first ten minutes: meh...
Next 20 minutes: hm, getting there.
After that: wtf!?
Henry Cavill is great so far. Some of the other acting seemed a little iffy as well as some of the special effects. But I was enjoying throughout and in the end I thought the episode had a satisfying arc/setup for the series. Geralts butchering in Blaviken was badass as it was brutal and his discrimination though a bit on the nose was done well enough. Henry Cavill is just dripping Gerald of Rivia and I can't wait to see more.
Good setup, good opening, good battle scenes, GREAT acting. It's an amazing setup for an amazing show.
Was pleasant surprised with the first episode. Ok, the Nilfgaardian armor does still look like dragon **** leather but that is as far as all the initial fears did come true.
Nice atmosphere, swordfights were creative and fun to watch. I enjoyed the last game. Never red the books, might gonna do it later.

The End's Beginning, first episode of The Witcher, give to us a good introduction to his world. I didn't played any of the three Witcher games, but I want to, neither have read the books, that I will certainly buy, so the only thing I did know abou The Witcher was some characters names and what this is about. I know there is more to be shown but this first episode did a good job introducing it all. Henry Cavill is cool, I don't know much abou Geralt so I don't know if he is 'faithful' to the books and/or games, or if he does justice to Geralt's characters, but his acting is pretty good, I didn't connect to Geralt, but there's more seven episodes and I know they will develop him more through the season. All the other actors are good as well. About the characters, I know Ciri is gonna be a big part of this so I expect to care about her as well.
The CGI is good, the monster at the beginnning of the episode, a Kikimore, is well done. All the costumes are great, loved them all, gives the classic fantasy book feeling, but it's all something fresh somehow. The coreography is also great, loved the battle between Geralt and Renfri's men is really, really good, and violent as well, and being without cuts is what made it better, even not being something new, as in Daredevil, made by Netflix as well. The directing of Alik Sakharov, that directed episodes of Game of Thrones, is good, the pacing is great here, it was indeed a great start for this series.

- TriviaGeralt's storyline in this episode is an adaptation of the short story "The Lesser Evil", contained in the collection "The Last Wish".
- GoofsUsing the word "mutant" implies some knowledge about genetics and genes. However, "mutation" is sourced from the Latin word "mutationem", and existed as "mutacion" as early as 13th century Old French. So the concept of "mutant", in the meaning "changed", is not new, despite the mechanism of change - DNA - was known a full 700 years later. Hence, the use of the word in a fantasy setting, though having a modern air to it, is justified in a fantasy setting.
