First of all, I love stand-up comedy. I'll listen to almost any show because even if you don't like it there's usually a couple of good jokes. And I love new talent - one of my favorite things is to go to the comedy clubs on open mic night. I found that with Gina there was nothing remotely funny about anything she said. I mean, honestly her mom's book of bus accidents was only mildly funny for a minute but then she pulled that out at least five more times. She repeated herself so much that I wondered if the audio was skipping. I don't feel like her humor has any basis in reality. For instance she claims that the only black women in LA look like either Halle Berry or Precious. But most the black women in LA look more like Janet if you ask me - they try to look their best and look like they're going places. There is certainly a lot of multi-letter women in LA and probably a lot of them comedians, as well, so I didn't think that joke was funny at all and to me that really kind of sums up how I felt about her whole act. She made some strange comment about going to Alabama and pretending to act like how blanca people act when they first go to Africa thinking there's no cars or shoes. I'm really just not sure how that's funny even as an anti-caucasian snark. The stand ups special in itself actually have other bad comics with a few good ones sprinkled in and a lot of mediocre ones. I haven't written reviews for all of them; in fact, just the ones I thought were really noteworthy for some reason.
When she came on stage she stood there for a full minute waving her hand up and down her body after the joke about how she doesn't belong in LA because of her appearance. Trust me she's not something special to look at and she's definitely not unique either. The only thing funny about her is those enormous glasses.
