Hen Begins

Henrietta 'Hen' Wilson: I have something to say to all of you. I see you. I saw you all the second I walked in that door, all these... staring down at me, I see you when you're hazing me, not like all the other rookies. Whether we're here in the house or out on a call, I'm watching you, I'm looking, I see you. When you look at me, What do you see? A woman? A black woman? lesbian? Good! Because I'm all of those things. And I don't expect you to love me. I don't even ask you to like me. All I ask is that when you look at me: see me, see me the way I see you as a proud member of this department. One of the rare few that chooses to spend their lives in service of those who are hurt and those who need to be saved. Yes! And one other thing: if any of you have a problem with me being here? I suggest you ask for a transfer. Because I'm not going anywhere.
