I suppose an argument could be made that the show has always had dark elements, but mostly what I remember from previous seasons was clever industry insider jokes and tongue-in-cheek social commentary similar to 'Arrested Development' or 'Community'. The risk, I think, is that at a certain point the drama can overpower and wash out the humor, and I think this episode came really close to that.
Also, even though this is a cartoon, depicting the main character doing things that are really ugly and disturbing might make it difficult to empathize with him again in the future, even with the explanation offered for his actions. The bottom line is that I didn't hate this episode or the overall arc, but I'm a little worried about whether they can tie it off without making the show kind of a bummer or creating some serious cognitive dissonance as they try to get back to the funny side of things.
The interview was dark and sad, as it showed a realistic look on what could easily happen today! When you cant afford the attention.. but can you live with what happened? This was powerfull commentary amd felt like the moment, that changed BoJack!
We are not all perfect! No one is perfect! No good or bad... just people... doing things and making choices! The important thing is how we respond to the things we do! Sometimes.. we need someone to say.. that is alright to ask for help!
BoJack continues to amaze, depress, and restore me. I'm not sure how it's possible for a show to push sitcom boundaries episode after episode while making me feel deeper and laugh harder than I have at any one other show. And it isn't just BoJack's story that provides that mix - it's the entire supporting cast. Each main character gets special attention from the writers, who deftly interweave the personal traumas and joys of each character into a satisfying larger narrative whole. Attention to detail in the animation continues to be platinum-level, as is the voice cast. BoJack Horseman S5 continues to be one of the fiercest, funniest, and devistating shows on Netflix.

- Quotes
BoJack Horseman: I don't understand why you're being so nice to me. After everything you know about me, and all the shit I've put you through.
Diane Nguyen: When I was in high school, I had this friend. Abby. She was my only friend and we did everything together. Until she got adopted by the cool kids, and then she turned on me, so fast. She used every secret she knew about me, every vulnerabilty. She made me miserable my entire sophomore year. But then that summer, when her mom got sick, like really sick, and all her cool friends were off vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, I was there for her.
BoJack Horseman: Why?
Diane Nguyen: Because I'm an idiot. And it was Abby. And I hated her, and I will never forgive her, but she needed me, and... she was my best friend, and I loved her. And now... you're here, and I hate you, but you're my best friend, and you need me.
