Enjoying reading these reviews more than watching the show

People writing these reviews far more clever than the writers of this show. Its been 3 seasons, throw us a bone already !! Too much filler and not enough solid clues to figure out what is going on. And yes the main male actor is so over the top he's become really annoying. By this time one usually finds at least one of the characters likeable but no. Not this time.

OMG Get to the point!

I just watched all 16 episodes back to back and I will admit I did a lot of FF to get through all of the blahdy blahdy blah blah but in the end, I know nothing more now than I did after watching the first episode. Which is nothing.

This is one of those shows that does nothing but create spots for commercials which is what I imagine it was designed for however watching it on PPV leaves little to be desired and they could at least have ended season one with some sort of explanation of anything that is going on but no, but they don't and since it will probably get canceled after this, there is really not much point in watching it even for the entertainment value because there is none. Do your self a favor and skip it.

We tried

My wife and I don't watch too many network programs, but we thought the concept of this one sounded interesting, and we figured that with Zemekis behind it, the production values would be pretty high.

I have a three episode rule for new shows. Sometimes it's not fair to rush to judgement, as they're still finding their voice. We lasted two and a half episodes with Manifest.

First, the writing is just bad. Cliched characters, forced dialogue. The natural comparison is to Lost. Well, in Lost, they would leave you confused, giving you clues, sometimes making you think one thing was going on, when it was really something else. Introducing you to new characters and sub plots piecemeal, as the story moved forward. They didn't hand you anything. Brilliant.

Manifest, however spent the whole first episode introducing you to every character. Hitting hard all the points they wanted you to take away so there was no room left for any nuance or interpretation. I hate these shows that spoonfeed you. If shows they have no faith in their audience.

The acting is beyond wooden. Pick any girl from any High School play, and she'll do a better job than the female lead who plays the cop, mumbling her way expressionlessly through her dialogue. All the actors are about the same calibre as the crime witnesses in a typical Law and Order episode.

Finally, the special effects are about like Magruber on SNL. This was the guy who brought us Forest Gump and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? 30 years ago Zemekis was known as a special effects maven. Not sure what happened.

Over dramatic

My family loves this show but I don't get it. It feels like I am watching a soap opera. There just does not to seem to be any chemistry between any of the actors, especially the main brother and sister.

Put in a blender a cheesy soap opera, Lost, Sense8 and The Leftovers

Someone recommended this (actually praised it). U said: "OK, let's try"... But when I watched it I realize lot of big MEH things:

1. Rating is based purely on first season, the rest are a trail of a weak story that doesn't go anywhere by itself, is carried by silly (and too many) subplots.

2. VFX are amateur alike and they looks like made in 1988 (i.e. The gargoyle, the silver angel lady, the lights on book and hands, etc, etc, etc)

3. Actors are mediocre and way overreacted (no one is a big star) thus they aren't credible. They repeat a screenplay like parrots but they don't feel what they're are saying, there's no interpretation. By the way, they solve the mysteries on Wikipedia!

4. Most of the dialogs are corny and repetitive between characters. They say "everything is connected" like 10 times per episode.

5. The callings are lame most of the times. No ground base either.

6. The kid's callings attested with childish drawings? Gimme a break. So cliché!

Last but no least: 4 seasons when other cool shows are cancelled? Don't get it.

Like dragging mud across pavement...

I had high hopes. I really thought the resurrection of "lost" was upon us, albeit in a different setting. But as the season has progressed, I my feet are caught in quicksand as the thing misfires all over the road, meandering back and forth like some old car that can't find its gearing. No only is there no action to speak of, but the soap opera that it's become is almost laughable in the face of what is the greatest aberration of science and physic the world has ever seen. So many possibilities here, but everyone is apparently asleep at the wheel -- with the rest of us.

I wish I had a calling to skip this one

This series is based on madness and very bad acting, I wish I had a calling to skip this one.

The sfx in this series can easily be surpassed by the average amateur and it seems they used video tutorials to make this one but failed to quite succeed...

It also gets boring in the long run because everything is so predictive, I've never seen such a ridiculous series until now and I don't understand at all that they were allowed to release a 4th season.

The initial idea was good but I think they should have the writer of this series tested for addictive substances because it's just too ridiculous to be true.

There's so much talent in this world who don't get the chance, which makes it so sad that this junk can be released.

I have seen this series on netflix and hope they make a better selection in their choices in the future.

This review may come across as demeaning, but you must protect viewers from wasting their time on this exploit.

Thanks for coming

Was really intrigued by this but it's a huge disappointment. I gave it 10 episodes but when you drift off and start checking email during the show it's a sign. Sorry, we really gave it a shot.

Pass away

It started with a good and original plot, but it took a wrong and boring direction. The acting is ridiculous, just like the dialogues.Nothing happens in episodes, unless no sense callings. One of the dumbest and repetitive tv show I ever seen.A "calling" a day keeps the doctor away 😂😂😂.Just cut it off.

Bad acting and very bad plot

Almost finished with the series cause I had nothing better to do but now I literally force myself to watch it. None of the actors are good, there is no plot (it changes every season) and the overall dialogues seem like they were written by a 5 year old. Apart from its fantasy/sci-fi aspect, even the parts that are meant to be realistic look really off and it's difficult to enjoy the series when the antagonist changes every season. I have been waiting for it to maybe get better on the final episodes but honestly it's just not a good show.

Overall, the two points are given to the first episode of the series but other than that, very low quality script, screenplay and acting.

disappointing

This show is cheesy. It feels unnaturally PC and completely false.

They failed to engender any interest in the cast, indeed i really could not care less about any of them, the cheesy voice overs and wooden acting make this an almost immediate turn off. Pity as this could have been an intriguing show. Producers need to be more careful about who they put in charge.

I wanted to like to show...

I really wanted to like this show but it's getting annoying and frustrating to watch with every chance I give it. The concept was interesting in the beginning and had me hooked for a bit but now it's just a dumb drama show with bad writing.

This Show Has Crashed Along With the Plane

What started out as an interesting premise has now taken a nose dive. The story is now nothing more than the usual melodrama. The writers just don't know where to take the story so I'm done. Totally boring.

Just waiting to be cancelled..

Don't waste your time watching "Manifest". I won't go into details. Let me just say this: The premise doesn't make any sense at all. And everything else is slowly going absolutely nowhere. It's almost as if the producers are just waiting for it to be cancelled. Why this show is still on the air, is a complete mystery to me.

Lost 2.0

Director: "We need a few more episodes that have no special effects, so make some with nothing but the actors yelling at each other." Writers: "Shouldn't we at least try to fill some of the plot holes?" Director: "You're fired. Someone get me one of those Lost writers!" Lost writer: "Again?" Director: "Ya but with more soap-opera drama." Lost writer: "Isn't this supposed to be a sci-fi thriller?" Director: "You're fired. Someone get me one of the writers for The Bachelor!"

empty characters, non-existent plot

Started promising, then gradually got boring.

Poor acting, plot pointing in several directions but getting nowhere, bad writing, average visual effects.

Characters are not captivating, they look like empty puppets lacking a credible background - as if they would shut down every time you turn off tv.

Delusional.

I watched it until season 3 - needing to skip too boring episodes - and still I am unable to understand what's going on. Will not waste my time with such a pointless show anymore.

Lazy writing and poor acting does not make you care about these characters.

You can easily guess the storyline which has outdated plots and the usual secret government villains.

Lazy screenplay combined with bad acting.

The couples have no chemistry and most romantic scenes are cringe worthy .

The storyline around Mick,Jared, Lourdous and Zeke Are boring and so lazily written.

The only mystery they had was the 'Major' and they reveal the person mid season 1.

Ben does more research than the police, journalist or any scientist and yet doesn't solve anything. Not sure how his family manages expenses with him running around town with no job or purpose.

The problems they face are not hard to solve, yet they need a calling or the 8 year old kid to do a drawing to tell them exactly how to do.

As soon as there is a slight difficulty or when they lose their imagination they get a vision or a calling . You can pretty much guess what's coming next.

Great concept, terrible execution

Such a shame that this show didn't have better writing, acting and overall production because the concept is so interesting. But it's freaking awful and you could tell from the opening scene with a terrible voiceover on top of a pathetically inappropriate score. It also moves waaayyyy too freaking quickly through the first episode, if the creators want to make an unrealistic event believeable they need to surround that unrealistic event with realistic reactions, interactions, processes... how people, the media and authorities would truly act if this crazy singular event actually happened. This show does not do that, it's just piles on eyerolling amounts of unbelievability.

Ooooooh... I'm pissed!

I'm pissed because their 5 year 6 months 28 days story made me waste my few hours.

1. Can writers not be generic? Can they think of this as something that should end by Season 3 and then give their best? Let's face it, this show goes beyond season 3, I'd rather watch Sharknado!

Poor writing Poor acting (especially character Grace Stone makes me cringe so much, I wanna write her off in a not-so-subtle way) Poor casting Poor direction Poor cinematography (which probably isn't their fault but the director's, still they failed)

Second season dragging on and on

Interesting show.. but there are a couple things that really bother me;

I am tired of hearing all of the cheesy music every single time any dramatic situation arises. I have no idea who is responsible for this and where they're even finding those church sounding songs, but it's horrible! Seriously doubt even a single viewer actually enjoys them... if I want to hear that crap I'll go to church or even find an elevator to listen!!

The main thing that bothers me is how absolutely awful the acting is by "Cal".. it literally makes me cringe! I know he's just a kid and doesn't have much or any experience. And I always relax my expectations for younger actors.. But it's seriously impossible in this instance! He is absolutely horrible and brings the show down. It is SO fake and unnatural no matter what he's doing!! This kid has absolutely no talent. In fact, I think it gets worse as the show progresses! Pursuing an acting career is the absolute last thing he should be doing! Just absolutely horrendous.. I seriously can't think of a single actor who is worse, less talented, more difficult to watch than him, not a single 1!

Quite a conundrum...

Which is worse, the acting or the writing? Actually, that's an easy one: it's the writing. This is the most clumsily plotted, third grade dreck on television. It's just unwatchably awful. But don't get me wrong, the acting is decidedly low rent as well.
