An interesting take on an old story.

Benjamin literally walks into the life of Julia, on her sixtieth birthday, a woman slightly disillusioned with her family, who falls for the handsome, younger chap.

I quite like it, I can't say I was thoroughly gripped by it, but this first part was interesting enough. I may be out of line, but I wonder had this been made years back, it would perhaps have been a young, gorgeous girl coming into the life of an older man, so it's a different take on a familiar plot.

Is Benjamin all he makes out to be, is he a good guy or not, we only got a minor glimpse of his character. Was it simply a chance meeting?

Well acted, solid, was lovely to see Julia McKenzie, I'm sure there is more to come.

    I'm not gripped, but I'm curious, 6/10.

    Nothing Special

Not overly impressed. The characters are bland and the story looks like it's all being done before. Despite that, I am intrigued as to what happens but I wouldn't say I'm hooked either.

    Episode 1

If you are going to have a six part series. You really need to be grabbed by the first episode and think you are in for a rollercoaster ride with twists and turns.

By the end of the first episode of Gold Digger. I thought this could be wrapped up by the second episode. I doubt it has the legs to be a six part series unless the writer has some real surprises.

The first episode starts off with a wedding and then goes back 12 months.

Julia Day (Julia Ormond) an attractive divorced mother of three is celebrating her 60th birthday alone. On a trip to the museum she encounters the much younger Benjamin (Ben Barnes) who invites her out.

An affair develops and when Julia announces her relationship to her three adult children, it goes down like a lead balloon. Her two sons are unsure of Benjamin's motives, is he a gold digger?

By the end of the first episode we do wonder what exactly is Benjamin's motives? After all there are five more episode to go, someone must end up as a psycho!

This just came across as a nicely shot but bland middle class drama. I was not left with a feeling of waiting in anticipation for the next episode even though the whole series was then dropped on Iplayer.

The main thing of interest about the whole thing so far. The characters of Julia and Benjamin are played by actors with the same first names.
