"Lighten up Francis" Name one Hollywood product that doesn't have an agenda. This is a good police action drama.
This show is all about a man full of love. He loves his wife. (She is a surgeon. She saves his life when he is shot, and when he is stabbed.) He loves his daughter. He loves his Godson. He loves his father ( who has dementia and does not always know who he is.) He loves his fellow deputies. He loves the people of Los Angeles county. He loves his horse. The only thing he does not love, is the politics of being the Sheriff of Los Angeles county. The stories each week are a little weak.

Pretty enjoyable show about a rogue deputy who becomes the sheriff in LA county. He bends the rules and breaks others to get the job done. You'd think that republicans would love the bad ass sheriff but.....All the hate seems to be from some bigots that that don't like that the sheriff isn't into helping round up undocumented immigrants. Actual police understand that if they participate it'll make their job harder.

I really liked this show and am sad to see it go. It was entertaining and a little off beat. It was only political if that's the lens through which one sees everything. It would appear the show was tanked by a right-wing review writing campaign since many of the remarks were obviously written by the same person or taken literally from the same script. I addition, because I read each and every of the 373 comments, many of the 1-stars were resubmitted 3 or 4 times.
Its too bad some people can't be more open minded. Not everyone fits into traditional roles and to deny that is simply shortsighted. It is also quite clear that everyone is not treated equally in this country in like circumstances. Deputy was never an "in your face" type of show. It merely attempted to show that tolerance and appreciation for our differences costs you nothing and can, if you allow yourself, to enrich your life. Love thy neighbor ..... very simple, unqualified and a precept that every religion encourages but that many supposedly God-fearing types tend to dismiss.

Stephen Dorff is great in the roll of Sheriff of LA County. So far storylines have been interesting. Enjoy the program & hope it is renewed.
If you're a reality tv lover this in not the show for you. Thourghly enjoy this production, well done acting, editing, directing. Entertaining show.

I'm not remotely shocked by all the negative reviews. I honestly expected this show to be a fox news anti immigration kind of story, I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. I bet all the negative reviews are from people hoping to see a show with their Trumpian viewpoint.

I love the deputy series. Great action. Nice change to some of the other stuff that's on. I love Stephen Dorff and Becca Taylor Klaus (she is such a great character and helps make the series a success). Love her character. Hope they continue the series.

Reminds me a lot of Walker Texas Ranger and everything he had to go through to get past the politics.
You who have complained about too political should have at least got a couple or three episodes under your belt before trashing the series!! It gets better!

I'm willing to invest some time into this series! Reminds me of a combination of the Rookie and Justified! I love the main guy!

I am so sad that this was cancelled. Great stories, characters, locations...the whole package. Here's hoping HULU, NETFLIX or AMAZON can pick this little gem up after COVID. I would very much like more of DEPUTY.

As I watch the last episode I am sad this series is cancelled. Would have loved to see another season. With numerous excellent stories and themes this caught my attention starting at episode 1.
I really love this show! A cowboy sheriff trying to do what's best for the people and his department.... and he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty! I love it!

I see so many complaints about the political agenda on the first line and written after only watching the premiere (most done Jan 3-6, 2020). It didn't set right with us either (as Conservatives) but we gave it more of a chance. After the first episode it has not really been like that. It has touched on issues that are happening but not pushing it down your throat. It reminds me of a cross between Longmire and Seal Team. The wild Deputy and the law enforcement team/family camaraderie aspect. I really hope they don't cancel this. It's a good drama and for the folks bucking the system in California and not just going along with the politicians.
I don't understand the criticisms about this show. Fox has consistently had (of late) some of the best dramas on network television. This one has a cast of seasoned actors, the script is tight and well directed. Mostly I don't have high expectations for really high quality new programs but I could tell after watching one episode that this one is only going to get better. The actors are top notch so if the writers can deliver good material, this one has the potential of being around for awhile. I suggest giving it a look.

So refreshing to see a good show. I am Sick of the same old same old, sick of reality tv and boring empty programming. This show keeps me guessing and surprised. Great group of actors too.
This show is entertaining and has underlying messages in each episode but nothing too preachy. Can sometimes be cheesy but all in all good easy viewing.

Not so much action, as there are several tiers of storyline per episode, the fight on the ground, the fight for retaining the morals and standing of the Sherriffs department, the fight for the sherriff to remain true to himself and the office he holds, the fight for those suffering in positions they feel they cannot be themselves, the fight for equailty and truth and justice ... They are all done pretty well though.
It does seem a little too much setting the scene for character development, but if a show is going to reflect society, it has to show allsides, and I think this does that quite well.
The real issue here is the reviews. So many negative reviews, mostly just from people who cannot accept that the times, they are a changing.
One even says "I didn't think I could find a show worse than NCIS LA, but I did" Wow, rest assured, this is NOT worse than NCIS LA, nor better, it is just different. Another laments their expectations of a "Longmire type cowboy" ... so sad that they want that - maybe a reimagining of Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Laramie or The Virginian would get them to watch.
The most often commented is "too political", and "PC", with a smatterng of "genders". Well, guess what, that's what society is doing right now. Dealing with the fact that there are some people who see themselves between the genders or rising above gender barriers. I am not one of them, but I know people who are, many of whom will not speak out for fear of exactly this repressive reaction.
Am I surprised that there are SOOOOOOOOO many 1 stars? No. Why? Because people who accept society is changing do not need to rant on here about it. People who do NOT want change came here, whined about how terrible it is, how they "couldn't stand more than ten minutes", and "how poltitcal it is", and "off to read a good book" says sooo much - I just know that book is NOT going to be a good one!!

THIS IS THE BEST NEW SHOW OF THE 2019-2020 SEASON! AND IT'S ABOUT TIME THE L.A. COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT RECEIVED SOME SAG SCREEN TIME! (THE LAPD IS NOT THE ONLY CRIME FIGHTING SERVICE IN THAT AREA!) IMHO, THE FIRST 3 EPISODES HAVE DONE A FINE JOB OF SHOWCASING THE WOMEN AND MEN WHO MAKE UP THE ORGANIZATION-WHY FOCUS ON THE ONE SMALL STORY LINE OF THE FIRST EPISODE RE: ICE? IF ONE SUBTRACTS KENNY JOHNSON & THE AWESOME THEME SONG (OK, AND MS. DEB & ST. PAT ;) FROM S.W.A.T.), THIS SHOW IS BETTER WRITTEN, BETTER ACTED, MORE ENTERTAINING. AND ISN'T THAT WHY WE WATCH ACTORS ON A STAGE? TO BE ENTERTAINED? IF YOU LIKE CRIME DRAMA, WATCH EPISODES TWO AND THREE-THEN DECIDE! I THINK YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!! THANKS TO ALL THE CAST AND CREW!!!
I watched the pilot tonight. I found it fast paced with multiple story lines. As a career deputy, I can relate to its politics.
My only objection is that Stephen Dorff's character having moved from the field to job as sheriff should SHAVE!!
He can continue to keep his hands on in the field. Yet, he should show respect to the office and in wearing the uniform by being clean shaven. He is no longer working as undercover where such would be beneficial.

What is the problem, people? All of these low scores make me think you have nothing else to do but criticize. What happened to the purpose of watching "shoot 'em up bang-bang" shows? We know the sheriff's gonna win...he's supposed to. This show is a 2020 new-fashion western. Sure it's political...ALL of the shows bend that way now, in case you haven't noticed. I have issues with certain things that have cropped up in nearly every new show these days. As long as it doesn't become the main storyline, I watch around it, if you get my drift. Stephen Dorff is phenomenal as the main character as are all the remaining cast. I hope this gets a second season...it deserves it. You GO sheriff Hollister!
