Pilot

Will Packham (Will Sharpe) has got his law degree, passed his bar exams and got his pupillage. In this pilot episode his idealism takes a battering as he accompanies his supervising barrister Caroline (Katherine Parkinson) in the criminal courts. Caroline over the years has become cynical realising the importance of winning cases.

Will also finds out that he needs to compete with other pupils in his chambers if he wants to be kept on after qualifying.

The series was written by Kieron Quirke who also wrote Cuckoo. It was inspired by the book Defending The Guilty: Truth And Lies In The Criminal Courtroom by Alex McBride. It shows as the courtroom scenes were very realistic.

Will finds himself as a gopher for Caroline. He is also heading for the road, trying to get off clients who might be guilty.

There were some funny lines, humorous situations but nothing too hilarious.. Will looks gormless, ready to be eaten alive by more wily and cunning clients.

Fun comedy with an underused setting for sitcoms. Characters are interesting, if not multifaceted yet. Soundtrack is fun, and I look forward to the next episode. All in all: a very solid pilot episode!
