Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror

Nikola Tesla made for an interesting person to study, and Goran Visnjic was a terrific bit of casting, he was excellent.

I did rather enjoy this, it certainly had energy, and in all fairness it had some excellent production values, some of the shots looked fantastic. The lighting was much, much better than we've had in recent times, making the monsters look so much better. The Queen of The Skithra did seem to bear a striking resemblance to The Queen of The Racnoss.

I would argue this was Jodie's most accomplished performance since Rosa, she had more conviction, she showed some metal facing up to The Scorpion Queen. There was some depth here, the memories of Gallifrey etc. I thought she was rather good.

They can't help but have a dig about capitalism, whether you agree or not, weekly receiving the message on Dr Who is not the place, even Pertwee gave us a break once in a while. They are struggling to make the companions useful, efforts to give Yaz more to do are sacrificing Graham unfortunately, Ryan sadly was barely in it. Unlike last week though it ends with a welcome positive message.

There was a more classic vibe going on here. I liked it. 7/10

"Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror" was an enjoyable episode that managed to avoid the pitfalls of previous instalments from this season.

Goran Visnjic was tremendous as Tesla himself. His appearance in this tale was memorable and a highlight of the season so far.

Jodie Whittaker remains annoying but I actually found this a refreshing change and leap years ahead of the awful "Orphan 55".

7 out of 10. With echoes of classic Who, this is worthy of a viewing.

This was just such an enjoyable episode to watch. It was by no means outstanding but not every episode has to be. Sometimes it's good to just sit back and be entertained by a good old fashioned episode of your favorite TV show. This was actually my favorite episode of series eleven or twelve. And I loved that title. The actors that played Tesla and Edison were just great. I've even heard some reviewers comment that the guy that played Tesla would make a great future Doctor and I couldn't agree more. I also appreciated Jodie's more toned down performance. Is she finally realising how to be The Doctor?

Enough said really. Earlier today, I watched a couple of the Tennant era episodes and missed Doctor Who feeling that way. It used to be real with real people and real stakes. Although clearly fiction, this episode managed to make the characters feel multi-dimensional and recaptured the good old days feeling of real life.
